I'm about to purchase a X61s with an employee discount. I'm just curious if anyone know which Thinkpad logo it will come with. I know the medium to large company purchases will get the new Thinkpad logo, and the small to single purchases will get the old IBM logo.

Maybe it's me, but why is the logo so important. It adds no function or value.

Amen! I'm glad to hear someone else say this. I'm dumbfounded by all the fuss over which logo people will get. It's what's inside that matters, not the silly logo! If people are so worried about making sure everybody knows they have a TP, you surely don't need a logo for that!. Just my opinion!

I bought my T61 through EPP, (not Myers) but I personally could care less if I get the Lenovo or IBM sticker.

When I was younger and barely into computers I used to think it was the ugliest logo I've seen. And I said to myself "if I were ever to buy one of those laptops I would either paint over it or scrape it off". True story :D

But I'll second what Zaz says...

What you guys are failing to understand is, we're not allowed to have preferences regarding the appearance of our notebook.

Then buy one that allows you to do what you will with it. You not going to get that kind of customization on a Dell or HP either.

Then I don't see how suggesting Dell or HP helps.

OP just asked which logo will come on his. I don't see the problem with prefering the IBM logo. I do see a problem with assuming peoples motivations for that preference (not you, just re:"making sure everyone knows" what you have). For me, it's just part of the looks, like the color. THat red green and blue graphic accents the aesthetics for me as much as the the black case. If Lenovo changed the color of the thinkpad, I doubt as many of you would have a problem with threads asking "will I still get a black one, if..?".

The Lenovo "thinkpad" logo just doesn't look good to some of us. I agree that it's the least significant of details- but matters to some, not to others. Why do we care? Why do you care that we care? We are all thinkpad fans here.

The black color is why we need lights to see the d... keys at night. In the dark.

I personally love the IBM logo, there is nothing like it. Instantly you know it's an IBM when you see that all black case and the tri color logo in the corner - its a certain "status" that you own the best laptop you can get. It looks cool and that's what dihard thinkpad fans have become accustomed to, so dont worry about people that care about the logo.

Well thanks for having our backs lol... but you just supported DallasMusician's assertion that anyone who desires the logo does so merely for bragging rights. I'm more of a "working man's" class of gear guy anyways, not elite gear, but to each his own. and I think you're saying more than just status, anyways. Re: "that's what diehard thinkpad fans are accustom to", just part of hanging on to the history.

It's kinda like how retro gamers don't like Atari changing the Fuji symbol on new stuff, even if the rereleased games and hardware are exactly the same, it's a visual link to the history.

There are two EPP programs: Lenovo and IBM. Lenovo apparently doesn't give a crap about abuse of its EPP just like Lenovo apparently doesn't give a crap about quality control (witness the T61 and N200).

If you know someone working for IBM, then he/she might share their EPP required credentials.
It's totally legal if done with IBM employee's consent.
