I have a Thinkpad T400 and X200. I want to sell one of them since I don't actually use both on a consistent basis. Which one should I keep? I'm going to school to get my CCNA certs. Here's the specs:

    ThinkPad T400
    Processor
    Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9600 (2.8 GHz), 6-MB L2 cache
    4GB memory
250 GB, ???? rpm, 9.5 mm high, SATA interface
14.1" TFT display - Thinkpad Switchable Graphics
    CDRW/DVD
    Intel Wifi Link 5300 AGN
    Fingerprint reader and Security chip
    Lithium Ion in 9 cell

    ThinkPad x200
Intel Core 2 Duo processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
    4GB memory
250 GB, ???? rpm, 9.5 mm high, SATA interface
    12.1" TFT display 1280 X 800 - Intel X4500HD
    Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN
    Security chip
    Lithium Ion in 9 cell

If you game at all on the T400, keep it. Otherwise, X200 all the way.

You might also swap the Wifi and CPU from the T400 into the X200 before you sell.

they all look to have nice spec, but the question is what is the price difference between them two, and whether you really need an ultraportable like the X200.

Choder - will the x200 take the T processor?

Lead_org - I own both laptops, no price difference. Just going to sell one of them.

what i meant was the difference between market value and the price you paid when you bought them. Since the X200 is yet to updated it is still considered a current laptop, while the T400 will be considered a superseded laptop. So if you sell the X200, you could fetch a higher resell value.

Search on eBay for the model in question and compare accordingly

Guess I'll keep the x200. Look for a T400 selling tomorrow.

good call. although i think an even better bet would be to sell them both and get an x301.

.....I'd say keep the T400 as it's more futureproof; and selling the X would get you a better deal.

You didn't say which resolution your T400 display has, though I'm guessing it's WXGA+ (1440x900). If so, I'd probably keep that one; while the x200 is cool, I'd rather have the higher-resolution display. You also get the switchable graphics, the Intel 5300 wifi, and the optical drive. To me, those things are worth it.

I guess the question is, what is more important to you? Is it extreme portability and a bit extra battery life (x200), or is it higher performance and a little more display in a reasonably portable package (t400)?

@ RobT61p - I've been selling and buying on a regular the last couple of years to get me most recent Thinkpad. Time to control my addiction.

@ LoneWolf15 - Portability is not a main objective, and you're right, the T400 is small enough for me to carry. It is 1400 x 900 and you are right, I'll like performance over portability.

Now, I've change my mind, I'll keep T400 and sell X200. Darn, I had brought the T400 with me to take pictures. Stay tuned tomorrow for a X200 sell.
