I am looking at the 6 cell or 9 cell.

Does anyone know if th 6 cell sticks out like the 9 cell, and which batery would you guys recommend? Time of charge?

    Thx

Since it comes with a 4 cell by default, I would assume that both the 6 and 9 stick out the back. The 6 will not stick out as far though.

The six-cell does not stick out the back, but it does stick out the bottom, raising the back end a bit.

No, the 6-cell does not stick out the back. The 4-cell is entirely flush with the body, the 6-cell juts out the bottom by a tiny bit, raising the back end slightly (really, it's quite unnoticeable), and the 9-cell juts out the bottom the same way as the 6-cell, and also extends out the back of the machine by a bit less than an inch.

After spending 3 days on the road with my X201, between Philadelphia and San Francisco, I'll put in a hearty vote for the 9 cell. For the first time in my mobile life, I have the power that I need, and the confidence that I won't need a charger sooner than I expect. 12 hours of battery life is well worth the extra battery weight, and the form of the portion that sticks out of the back makes a nice handle for getting a grip on the notebook when heading through security checkpoints or dashing between trains.

If you aren't mobile as frequently, I'm betting that the 6 cell would likely work out just fine for you. Personally, once I pick up a dock for this wonderful little laptop, I'm going to add on another 9 cell to further increase my mobile range. 20+ hours worth of battery life on the road would be a sweet state of nerdvana for me.

I have a 4, 6, and 9 cell. The 4 cell is not too great. A few hours of power is just lame. The 6 cell fits perfect in my bag of tricks (briefcase) and is good for under 4 hours without too much worry. This battery does not take up much more space then the 4 cell (maybe .25 inches underside). The 9 cell is a horrible fit in the bag, but provides a nice kick of power when away from a power source and working more then 4 hours.

I prefer the 6 cell over all, and use it 90% of the time. 9 cell gets about 10% and the 4 cell is a waste of space.

Thanks - just bought an X201 with a 6-cell because I'm rarely away from an outlet for more than 3 hours or so, and your post seems to validate my choice. I'm going to need to bring the AC adapter with me most of the time to be sure to have power for presentations, so the extra weight of the 9-cell for extra battery life in-transit didn't seem worth it.
