Finally got my W510--a little surprised by just how thick this sucker is. Doesn't even come close to fitting in my old computer bag.

What bags do people like for a laptop this big?

    That's funny~ LeMarcus. Nice one!

I have a T510 - presumably same size as W510. I just put it in my back pack that has a padded pouch. Not professionally looking though.

I know the W510 and T510 share the same width and length, but I'm not 100% sure about depth. I bought this bag for my T510 and it fits great.

They both use an identical chassis, so a case that fits the T510 will work for the W510 as well. Even though the vast majority of new laptops have changed to 16:9 form factors, most cases have not yet made the transition (but expect to see more 16:9 cases out in the coming months). In the mean time, make sure you find the internal dimensions of each of the cases you are considering and make sure they can accommodate the extra-wide 16:9 laptop sizes.

i definitely concur with LeMarcus about the pizza bag idea... looks great and should keep your pizza hot if you ever decide to buy a pizza from far away places....

Use plastic bags from the grocery store. It will never get stolen that way, and the supply of new bags is endless (that is, if you live in a backward region of world where they still have free plastic bags..).

I've been using a Targus laptop bag to carry around my laptops for the past 8+ years. I bought it when I was in high school in 2002, and it's my primary laptop carry case to this day. It's been on countless amounts of flights (getting banged around by the airport security people I might add), and still looks great !
I highly recommend anything by Targus !

Some of the recent targus bags are pretty low quality. Crumpler and Victorinox laptop bags are really good, but can be slightly expensive.

Yeah I guess it all depends on how much you need to use it. If you're a road warrior for work or drag your laptop around a lot, you'd want to spend the extra and get something top-notch. If you're a more casual user whom mostly uses the laptop in one building, it probably doesn't make sense to spring for a premium case. :)

I concur. My $9.99-after-rebate Samsonite messenger bag is serving me very well, and I carry it to school 2-4 days a week.

I prefer the good old AW Orion backpack. Enough room for 4 such notebooks :)

Take a look at the prices on the BooQ bags (I have the Python XL for a 17" HP). After your eyes stop watering, any other bag you look at will seem like a bargain.

I just picked up a nice bag from Office Depot. A bit more conservative and traditional. On sale for $90 (from $134). Made by Samsonite. Really nice, soft, brown leather (also comes in black). Fits the T510 perfectly. It has more capacity than it looks from the outside (Kind of like the old Volvo 240 models. My father said they were small on the outside and big on the inside.). And, if you have the 9 cell battery, there is enough vertical room to accommodate it.

It is $400, which is what you expect for a laptop backpack of that quality with the added benefits of fitting SLR in there. The messenger bags from this company is about the same price as Crumpler bags.

Someone gave me this bag recently and i was shocked to learn how much it cost for laptop case of this format. In professional luggage case store that i went to, they quoted me for $550 AUD.

    http://www.luggageonline.com/product.cfm?product_ID=9960

If i had to buy it, i would not fork out more than $200 this one.

However, it is made of ballistic nylon (one would think Kevlar would be more fitting), so i guess i am safe from been shoot at.

I was taking a look at this link and in the product description, I found this statement:

"Front compartment features a removable Aero Sleeve™ padded computer pod with breathable window to help extend battery life (fits up to a 17" laptop)"

What does this mean? How does a padded computer pod with breathable window help to extend battery life?

Heat will diminish battery life, so if there's more ventilation it would cool down faster. It's a real stretch to make that claim for a bag though.
