I canceled my original order and have now configured two identical T60 systems. One with "256MB ATI Mobility FireGL V5250" and the other with "128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400". I'm wondering if the former will run hotter in the system and keep the fan running all the time.

Here's the details of one order...

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB)[1]
    Genuine Windows XP Professional[12]
    14.1 SXGA+ TFT
ATI Mobility Fire GL V5250 256MB
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)[8]
    Integrated fingerprint reader
    100GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm[4]
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim[5]
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (US/CAN/LA/AP)[10]
    6 cell Li-Ion Battery[60]
    1 Year Limited Warranty[7]

The V5250 should run hotter. How much hotter I'm unsure but that's the short answer to your question.
