    Hello,

I installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop v10 SP1 today on my T61p. Installing the NVIDIA driver support was pretty easy but it appears the Intel wireless driver support is not so easy.

Anyone using a good distro and have the same wireless working? Or, are you using SLED 10 with the T61p and have the 4965agn wireless working?

    Thanks,

    Halobox

You need a distro with a 2.6.22 kernel. SUSE may have a beta out with that kernel version but I think Ubuntu 7.10 has been said to have the most further along version.

You can try installing the new kernel version into the old distro version but that would take some searching for instructions.

Yea, I discovered in the SUSE forums that beta 10.3 supports this wireless chipset. I actually tried to get everything compiled, but in the end I gave up. Ran out of time. So I requested access to the SLED beta.

I may pull kubuntu 7.10 down and give it a whirl.

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 Beta on my T61p, the sound card and 4965AGN works automatically. Just need to set the SATA into compatible mode in BIOS and use the alternative install CD.

Are you use the x64 version? The Intel SATA controller isn't detected?

I have found that the newest beta from ubuntu does a great job of supporting both the NVIDIA with compiz and also the 4965agn wireless device. It is the only one that I have found that supports the 4965agn device for linux.

Too bad the ubuntu (in this case kubuntu) servers are overwhelmed and the download is progressing at dialup speeds... :(

Maybe they should ask Microsoft if they can use their download data centers. :D

I am running the 32bits version so I don't know if the 64bit version works.

Ubuntu 7.10 (still in beta) is probably one of the best distros for your computer but there are still rough edges

Indeed, wireless support was recently improved in latest versions of the kernel and will be in the future

By the way, I downloaded the x64 version of Kubuntu 7.10 and it will not install. The Black Screen of Death.

FYI, the x86 version of Kubuntu installs and works using safe video mode on the install. The Intel 4965agn wireless chipset also works.

Now it's time to download the NVIDIA linux drivers and hose things... :D
