I am planning to get T400 or T500. I am not a tech savvy person - would like to know if there is big jump from T400/T500 to T410/T510. Thanks.

The biggest jump from a T400/T500 to a T410/T510 will probably be the price.

I would argue that you will see a marked performance increase, especially if you configure with the dual core i7...

There's not that big of a price difference between the two base configs....You'll also benefit from switchable graphics.

It depends on what you're doing. Office, Internet and Media won't benefit much from i7. Since the OP is an admitted newb, those seem like the more likely uses.
