My credit card has a pending transaction from Lenovo since yesterday. (Still pending as of right now)
I received an email from Lenovo this morning saying they could not verify the shipping address with my credit card company.
So, I added the shipping address as a temp address and let Lenovo know of it.

Is my notebook getting ready to ship?
or do they do this even before building the machine?

By the way, I ordered an x61s 3 days ago.

I had this problem with xoticpc. I think they don't do anything until the credit card transaction clears. Unfortunately, that means those 3 days were most likely not used in terms of production. Of course, none of us can really tell you anything concrete that a company rep can.

You should have received an email asking you to contact Lenovo's Card Services to re-verify the shipping address with the Credit Card on file. They included a number for me to call when I placed my first order. If you haven't spoken with someone to verify this correction, nothing has been done on their part, and you're still in contention of having your order cancelled by them. Don't bother trying to call Lenovo's Card Services... they truly don't pick up the phone and send you straight to voice-mail... call the Customer Service number and start with them.
