1. LG screen is definitely brighter. About 2-3 clicks. I put both laptops on AC power. I also went into BIOS and changed the LCD brightness to HIGH on both machines.
2. Samsung screen has a more blueish tint.
3. The LG panel is considerably more grainier then the Samsung panel. For instance, when looking at white back ground, the LG panel is brighter and considerably whiter but way more grainier. The Samsung panel is considerably dimmer and the white is more blueish but is way more smoother meaning not grainy at all.
4. The text is definitely more crisper and sharper on the Samsung screen.
5. The advantage of the LG panel is that it is really bright. You can really tell the difference. But, it started to hurt my eyes because it was hard for my eyes to focus for a long time due to the graininess.
6. The Samsung panel is really cool to look at because of the slight blueish tint. It is dimmer but it was a lot easier on my eyes. I can look at the screen for hours without my eyes getting tired.

If it's possible to adjust the color calibration and make the Samsung screen true-white (i.e. switch to a warm color temperature), I would opt for it. If not, I would go for the LG despite the graininess.

My LG screen is so grainy.. I don't know why..

Oops... I skewed your results (voted for LG out of instinct, then read your post
). Based on your description, I would choose the Samsung. The deciding factor: #6 from your list. If you can't stand to look at it for a long period of time, what good is it?

i pick the samsung.
my x300 has cool blueish tinge to it, but when looking at photo things look reasonably natural.
it is very easy on the eye.
text looks so rich and black.
i love reading text on it.

I did not write this post, I copied it from another post in 2007. I have an LG and it is grainy and I am wondering whether I should go back to Samsung or try another LG and be stuck with it grainy or not.

Text/image quality is most important, IMO. Then get as bright as you can get. I voted Samsung based on the factors you listed.

Can always adjust the Samsung's blueish tint to proper calibration. -
How do I know if my laptop screen is bright? It looks pretty bright to me. Also I find it to be grainy, how do I know if it's too grainy to the point it's considered defective. It's grainy and it's noticable, but text is readable, images are sharp and it is bright (I think).

I just want to make sure if it's brightness is normal. How do I tell if it is at a proper brightness?
I think I am worrying to much about a non-issue thing. The only reason I notice the frost is because I am used to my other screen. I wish I could see what my other screen looks like so I can compare the two. -
Pros:
Great color/contrast - Pretty sure!
Sharp images/text - Pretty sure!
Very bright - I think so, not sure though.
Good view angles - For Sure
Cons:
Grainy. It's noticeable but it does not affect anything other then it looks a bit grainy (mostly on white backgrounds).
This is CFL and not LED!
I think my screen is pretty bright, how do I know for sure? -
I have no idea why you feel the need to conform the opinion of everyone. Are you so unsure of yourself and your decisions that you need people to confirm them to you?
If the LG screen hurts your eyes, and then we say that you should keep it, will you keep it so that your eyes get weaker and weaker until you grow tired and sick of your computer? Is that what you want?
Seriously, gain some confidence in yourself, and make a decision for yourself once in a while. I have nothing personal against you, and if you have questions about something you don't know, then ask, and I and others are more than happy to help you. However, when you make threads like this because you need (or want) others to agree with you, then you're not going to get much out of it.
Which screen would you choose out of this description?
