    This would be my first time purchasing a notebook as well as an IBM product. What are your suggestions?

    I like the R50 with the R51s warranty. Definetly upgrade the memory yourself. You can put in a 512Mb stick for a total of 768 for what IBM charges to upgrade to 512Mb. It is easy to do. Just remove a panel on the bottom and place the memory in the open slot. I like the SXGA on the R50 especially since it is a 15" screen. I would recommend a faster hard drive as opposed to a bigger one. If you can save a few bucks by dropping the a/b/g wireless to b/g, do it. Good Luck.
