I got my new T400 last week, but I found I can not switch between ATI 3470 and GMA X4500. My OS is Vista Home Basic. I found there is no option to choose switch graphics in Thinkpad Power Manager. The default graphics is ati 3470, but when I enter BIOS, choose "display", and it show the default graphics is "interal" and the other two options are "switch graphics" and "enable OS detect...."What's wrong? Now I can only use ATI 3470. How can I switch graphics card in vista home basic?

Another question is when I open task manager, I find the total physical memory are 2519MB, but I order 3GB to my computer, and I use ATI 3470 graphics card. Where are the other 512 memory? I can see memory total 3GB in BIOS.

I never found the option to switch graphics even in the Thinkpad Power Manager.

So I figured might as well switch to XP

The only way I saw was to create a profile that would use low VIDEO PERFORMANCE in the manager

I don’t find this feature very useful. It’s not like I’m going to switch cards every time I go on battery and vice versa. If they added a feature to automatically do this depending on the power state of the notebook, which shouldn’t be hard to do, then I might find it useful.

Wouldn't that get annoying if you wanted to play your games on the couch which isn't located near any plugins and your 'useful' autoswitch gpu kicks in? Just having to change it back. Just unplugging in general, i'd find that more annoying. I'd rather them have a quick push button to do the quick job instead. I like the feature. it's nice.

I can see where one would have an issue with this, but I have a PS3 for games. It would be nice if both options were available.

I followed the directions above but don't see an option to say yes to anything.

What's actually happening is ati2evxx.exe is running so that even when nothing else is even loaded it takes 50-80% of the cpu and 50% memory. I don't remember having this constant 'clocking' happening before this morning. I was going to switch to see what happened...and I can figure that out either. (I've got the t400 and it is supposed to have switchable graphics anyway!)

Thank you! Mine (vista business) looks a little different...there's a slider for high performance-high energy saving but down at the bottom there is a choice for switchable graphics. (Also I was previously clicking on the 'current power plan' icon instead of the actual batter icon so that was my fault to begin with!).
