I am considering whether I should remove the Intel Centrino and Windows Vista stickers from my palmrest![]()
Who's done it?
What are the pros and cons of removing/retaining them?
Should I wait until they are partially effaced through wear and tear and remove it then?
How old was your laptop before you removed the stickers?
Thanks

I took em off on the first day. If you ever want to take them off, you should do it sooner than later. The later that you take it off, the more difference between the color under the sticker and the rest of the laptop will be. It'll usually be lighter under the sticker.

i dont really like stickers... but the intel and windows sticker etc. is especially sticky.... i usually remove the spec advert on the laptop but, for intel and windows i leave em on. they dont look too bad actually; they are quite small.
the disadvantage of removing it is; you could leave a mess. and if you do decide to sell it might reduce its value. -
What's the best way of removing them? Tools, solvents? -

Just pull it off slowly but firmly. If it leaves any residue, just put some baby oil on a soft cloth and rub it down and rinse it out with a little water. Notice I said LITTLE. Little baby oil, little water.

stickers last about 5 minutes on my laptops. i know what i have inside. pros and cons? none really, no effect on performance. haha. goo gone works great removing the adhesive.

Also, some people have used a blow dryer on the stickers to heat them up making for an easy removal. If you do do this, make sure not to heat up the case itself too much, just the sticker. Clean any goo residue with baby oil.

If I am peeling them off, is there a chance that the paint from the palmrest will come off also? Or are the Thinkpad palmrests not painted?
-
I have seen many laptops where the stickers have partially been worn away through continuous friction with the palm/wrist. It's such an ugly look

Just grab a corner with your fingernails, and pull v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. If there's any sticky stuff left on the palmrest, use the sticker itself to dab most of it off and then rub the palmrest with your finger to obliterate the rest.
I have never had to use goo-gone or anything else to get the rest of the sticky stuff off. -
Keep the stickers on; they absorb heat and keep your laptop cool, especially the dark colored ones.
lol -
Technically I removed them, but I bought new ones and put them back on again. I had to remove them to apply a palm rest protector, and I put the new ones on top.

I removed mine as they came crooked.

has anyone tried to use rubbing alcohol to remove their stickers / the goo?

Thinkpad user should definitely remove all stickers to keep that professional all-black look.

took out vista and put on the ubuntu (sticker and OS) right after i got it
-
Did you find a driver for your Ubuntu sticker? It's kinda pointless putting one on unless you have the latest drivers...
-
Drivers for linux stickers are built-in.
Seriously, I recommend removing the stickers. Sometimes they can cause wear on the display bezel, depending on where/if they contact it when the lid is closed. -

i just wrap my computer in electrical tape...

My T61p is almost a year old, and the print on the windows sticker have worn off (it's my main computer at school, and my hand must have rubbed against it so often that the paint rubbed off). Recently, it even moved a little bit on the palmrest (for the same reason as the worn paint). I tried taking it off but the glue underneath is very sticky and would be a PITA to clean off the palmrest, so I just leave it. I don't plan on removing the Intel sticker though.

I just took off my stickers today after one year of use. I took a thin razor blade and sliced it underneath a corner so I could grasp it with two fingers. After that, I just slowly peeled it off. It didn't leave any physical residue (you can't feel anything), but under the right light at the right angle, you can see a faint (very faint) filled-outline of the sticker. The outline is slightly a lighter black than the palmrest. I decided to remove the stickers (C2D & XP) because I'm installing Vista soon and it just looked goofy with one sticker on the left side.
-
I got a new palmrest which didn't have any stickers because my first palmrest was acting up. This palmrest also happens to have the IBM logo on it instead of the Thinkpad one I have on the outiside.

I was able to take them off my T60 by using my fingernail and being careful (no need for a hair dryer, etc). Not wanting to throw them away, I stuck them on the bottom of the notebook where they still remain intact. I think it looks a lot better without them.

boooo ... PM me when you decide to ditch the vista and return to XP .. I'll tell ya some tricks for installing clean XP without using system update, lol -
alright .. you convinced me .. I just removed my stickers too, with a special tool called nail
the laptop looks more clean I guess -
it moves by time due the heat from ur hand, so i eventually removed them
-
-
Can we get pics of your guys' naked laptops.
-
but seriously, it looks good .. not like a sales person's item -
-
very neat and clean
-
I just removed all stickers too - Vista, Intel and Energy Star. Didn't leave any residue or marks. Rather than throw them away, I stuck them to the underside of my T61p.
-
If you remove the stickers, will that affect resale price?

i always use a hair dryer and try not to get the casing too hot. i had a gericom laptop (== piece of crap) where a few key caps melted away, such thing never occured to me again, but i also got more cautious.

-
Yeah I always remove stickers. They are ulgy, and can be very annoying.
-
I took them off too. Right after i took it out of the box
-
The Vista sticker was ugly, so I removed it ASAP. Then, after a week of looking at it, the Centrino 2 sticker, which isn't bad, looked a bit out of place on the clean black of the Thinkpad. So both are gone
-
I relocated all (Vista, Centrino 2 vPro, Energy Star, Wacom, WWAN MAC, WLAN MAC) of mine to the battery bay. This keeps them out of the way, but maintains them for future reference.
-
Just removed mine as I was reading this thread! Much prefer the clean back & red asthetic...
