I'm buying a T60 and would like to get one with 7200RPM hardrive. I was wondering who makes these? Is it Hitachi? I've looked at the specs sheets posted by Zaz and they do not specify the maker. Looks like there are 60GB and 100GB versions.

I would like to see how much these cost and possibly get a T60 with 100GB 5400RPM drive and then buy 60GB 7200RPM and move the 100GB into the dock. What do you guys think?

    Thanks a lot!

    Dima

best way to find out... open one up and look... if you know anyone that has one, or possibly ask zaz to look for you.

Drives are made by hitachi, toshiba, panasonic, seagate.

Any Serial ATA drive will work in your ultrabay or dock (you have to buy the the HD converter for the dock bay tho)

You could just buy a 160 gb 7200 rpm drive, as those are out now.

    I think you mean 160GB 5400rpm because i haven't seen any 160GB 7200rpm 2.5" drives released yet.

So Lenovo puts one of those four in there? I believe I've read somewhere that it's very quiet and neither toshiba nor panasonic are...

    I have a toshiba 100gb and a hitachi travelstar 100gb....

I prefer the toshiba. It IS quiet, and it's actually bigger too.

According to the ThinkPad T60/T60p Hardware Maintenance Manual, dated 26 April 2006:

All 5400 rpm drives are listed as Fujitsu, HGST (Hitachi), or Toshiba

All 7200 rpm drives are listed as HGST, or Seagate

... unless things have changed since April? I found this manual a good read - it answered a few questions for me (yes, engineers do sometimes read the manual! :D ). I assume a sales rep could answer specific questions once you are ready to order - at least that is my plan..

I am not aware of any 160GB 7200RPM drives. I know Seagate has one on their website, but I do not believe it has been released.

If the drives were available in systems then there would be information for the new 160GB 7200rpm drives somewhere on the net. I havn't found any. Seagate and Hitachi will likely release one in the near future as Seagate is already has information about the drive on their site but i've seen nothing of availability to this point.
