I have an Edge E530 (it's so old now!) that, as I've just noticed, has nearly finished downloading the 1703 update. Now that it's wasted all that data
I'm tempted to let it install. However, I want to check that it won't kill the laptop, which would suck as it's still my main work machine. So, has anyone installed the Creator's update successfully on an older model, and if so, how did that work out?
I can't imagine Windows would have pushed it if it would break the E530, as with some other models from what I've read, but OTOH I don't want to risk a BSOD as I don't have much of a backup plan besides a recovery disk. Thanks for your thoughts![]()

Me. T410s. No worse than before
(no Thinkpad on-screen display for volume, brightness, instead have Windows ones, no Thinkpad power manager, sound very slightly distorted - all happened on initial upgrade to Windows 10 - putting up with these nit-picks).

Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
X220 Tablets run 10 just fine except fastboot - had to disable it completely. Display doesn't recognize more than 2 touch points on any OS newer than 7 - since 7 is terrible for touch anyway, no bother. Also, sourcing the correct driver for whitelisted WWAN was a pain, but it runs perfectly afterwards.

I have a T420 and T430 running the creator's edition. Everything is running fine as of today. The T420 was a bit sluggish at first, but I refreshed the installation and all is going well now.

Both a W520 and a T430, both running fine.

T500, X201, T510, T410, W510, T520, T420, T420s, T530, and T430 here.

Think this fixes the "sound slightly distorted issue" I had :
Right-clicking the sound icon in the tray --> Playback devices --> Right click Speakers --> Properties --> Effects --> "Disable all effects"

W510 here. Everything works and updates, except bluetooth. There's no driver, so I bought a usb bluetooth.

Great. The 1803 update rolled in and now my brightness controls don't work at all on my T410s, and the screen is stuck on insanely bright. Thanks Microsoft. Fn + Home or End (i.e. usual Thinkpad brightness controls) make the Windows brightness slider appear, and move it up and down, but there's no change in brightness. Before the update this worked, though in rather coarse steps, and I used to be able to grab the slider with the mouse and adjust more finely if I really wanted to (if I was quick) - overall not perfect, but at least I could vary brightness. Hope another update fixes this soon, but yeah, probably wishing for a miracle. Anyone have any ideas ?

Intel HD Graphics : driver 8.15.10.2900 (26/11/2012)I seem to remember a whole bunch of trouble getting some aspect of the display to work correctly after the 2017 Fall Creators update (not sure why I ended up trying to reinstall one of the drivers - think it was the NVIDIA one), but somehow it did eventually install and work. Not sure why the 1803 update has broken it now.
NVIDIA NVS3100M : driver 21.21.13.4200 (18/10/2016)
A similar problem with the 1803 update has been reported by someone on the Lenovo forums for a T410 with Intel Graphics.
The BIOS contains two relevant options, "Graphics Device" and "OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus". I left the latter set to "Disabled" (otherwise it would automatically use Optimus if the OS supports it), so I definitely had control via the "Graphics Device" setting.
Using the Intel device, or Optimus gave the same result - presumably for both the Intel adapter runs the desktop display, and brightness control is broken (in a similar manner to the report on the Lenovo forum referring to an Intel-only T410). Obviously the Optimus setting should allow the NVIDIA adapter to be used for select applications, as controlled by the NVIDIA utility.
Using the NVIDIA device initially resulted in an incorrect display resolution for the LCD after boot (aspect ratio was wrong), but after a little while the system recognised the adapter and the correct 1440x900 resolution appeared. Brightness control worked fine.
So, the Intel adapter with the driver I mentioned above is broken under the Windows 10 1803 update. I have not yet tried the driver the Lenovo forum suggests may work.Last edited: May 4, 2018 -

Just updated my T410 (Nvidia version w/o Optimus) to Win 10 version 1803 and all is good: Screen brightness control works, volume buttons and some Fn key combinations work, didn't break a single driver too.
Regarding loss of screen brightness control in Westmere generation (1st-gen Core i3/i5/i7) laptops w/ Intel HD Graphics after updating to 1803, my 2740p also suffer from this, while my E5510 doesn't. -
Updated my post a couple of posts above to reflect some investigation on my part, and clarify things a little.

In case you don't know:
- The latest graphics driver for this Intel HD Graphics (aka GMA HD Graphics or Ironlake) is 8.15.10.2993 (for Vista and 7), in Win 10 you'll get 8.15.10.2900 by default.
- Support for Tesla generation Nvidia GPU has long ended (NVS 3100M is about the same as GT 310M), the latest driver package that supports them is 342.01, which was released in late 2016.

Never got around to changing my drivers, but Windows update KB4284835, which just appeared, fixed it.

Amongst other things : Addresses an issue with the brightness controls on some laptops after updating to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update
Who's got the Creator's update and a still-working older Thinkpad? ;)
