Got my T43 in 2005, and its 3-year warranty is just about up.

    Seriously tempted by the W500...

I will likely keep the TP for at least three years. I added the 4 yr on site with accidental damage protection warranty, and I have had it less than a year so far. It has been a real workhorse. I published several papers and finished one dissertation. So, maybe it is also a good luck charm...

ts 3-4 years cycle then an upgrade

my A31 was aug 2001 - jan 2005 then now T42P Jan 2005 - till date, so its about W500 now for another 3-4 years :)

My T43 turned 3 in July. Still going strong. However, I do have my eye on the T500. I really want a high res video port; the T500 has Display Port my T43 doesn't have anything comparable.

Well it's either a W500 or T400 for me :) I'm sure if I were to get something now, it would last me 3 years as well...

Our T43's seem to be about the same age. Mine's still going strong as well, hence the question - do I really need a new laptop ;)

Curious, what advantage will the displayport give over the T43's analog VGA out?

I like to take my computer to family and friends houses and do slide shows and movies on their tvs. The image quality with the s-video port on my T43 is disappointing. I'm assuming the display port on the T500 will yield much improved IQ.

And there's another reason I need another notebook. Since my wife became addicted to Bebo, as soon as I get home from work she grabs my notebook and gets online. I hardly get to use it anymore.

Z61m here with that bronze lid, definitely a keeper. Where else gonna see bronze Thinkpad? And Core Duo still capable handling Vista very well. No issues.

If the new T400/500 are built as well as my old T40p (unlike the t61), I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I eagerly await seeing one :D

Definitely staying with my current T61p, great notebook and the W500 doesn't really offer much of a GPU speed increase over what I have now, which is about the only thing I might even consider jumping for.

Currently very happy with my current setup; might grab another cheap 2GB stick for 4GB total but aside from that I couldn't ask for much more. :D

Might extend my warranty though as that's up in a few months...

Just got a T61 last week. I will stick with it for as long as the machine survives. Newer Thinkpads seems so similar to me, maybe if I were to make a switch it will be to get a LED screen + SSD + WUXGA panel, maybe a W500 or W700, but right now I don't need such a monstruous Thinkpad.

Just purchased my Thinkpad T60 back in December and don't see why I need to purchase the T400. However, with the new batch of netbooks cropping up I'm tempted to purchase either the Acer Aspire One, the Lenovo S10, or the ever elusive Dell Mini Inspirion 910. :)

If anyone has rumors regarding the Dell btw please do share! :D

My T61p has got everthing I need for now.
The only way I'd leave it any time soon is if
Lenovo added the ATI HD4800 series GPU to a
notebook in 14" or 15" sizes.

I like the ultra portables but they are either out of my price range or don't offer enough tech.

I just saw dozens of T40-43's today sitting on a table. They dust but they don't scratch! I think if I still have my T41, I probably still use it, too bad it was a company laptop :(

I am planning on getting T400 when it release with Linux on it, if that will happen.

I've had my T61p for just under 2 months, and I gotta say that I am just a little envious of the new T series. They are not that much more expensive that what I paid for my T61p - about $100 more.

I suppose I could have waited for the new T series and gotten a better processor, etc, but I guess things are always going to be superseded at some point or another anyway.

Nonetheless, I am still very happy with my T61p.

I just ordered a T400, but I'm not getting rid of my 5-year old T40. It's still chugging along fine, and if the T400 is half as reliable I'll be happy. :)

    I might bite this time.

My T41p was going to be replaced by a T61p but it wasn't wide screen (my mistake) so it got sent back. I didn't even bother turning on the T61 :p.

Maybe I'll be talking this same nonsense another four years from now... I'm sure my T41 will still be with me.
