So, today, I was going to order the thinkpad in my sig. With EPP, it came up to about $1400.
Now, I went to price it up to finally order it, and it's $1700.
What gives?
-
Battery prices are up, for one thing.
-
that shouldn't warrant a $300 jump, though. It looks like all the components are up in cost.
-
Pricing is still great for me.

There's an article in today's New York Times about the declining value of the US Dollar in relation to China's Yuan. I guess the era of cheap Chinese goods, at least for Americans, may be over. Things made in China will cost more in US Dollars as the Dollar gets weaker.
-
Tax, maybe? Also, make sure whatever discounts you think you're getting, you're actually getting.
-
are you adding it to your cart? the current discounts arent applied until then.
-
Yes, that is a little odd, since I just priced a T61 and the price is down a little from the previous sale price.

It's a great time to buy!!!

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
Yes, I noticed the exact same thing. Try just buying it through normal user and the USPGRANDSLAM(sp?) coupon. That gets it a closer to the value before April 7th, but not as good. -
I want the prices to go down to what it was in March. THere was a 20% off ecoupon on the regular site!
-
I got the price match during that time frame.
-
Well, I managed to get the price back down with a coupon... all in all, it came out better than it was before, totalling $1500 after tax and an added 2 year warranty
-
Man, I thought I was losing my mind. I priced out a system the other day and it came in under $1k and now it's over. I guess I am not losing my mind, although it really isn't much solace knowing that prices went up.
-
The pricese are the same as last week for me.
-
Since I'm waiting on an order from 3/31 to ship, I went ahead and ran the same specs through using current coupons. Current pricing is cheaper for me than my order...by about $12 USD

Don't feel bad, maybe your extra $100 will prevent any lead contamination from the Chinese products.
Battery prices have sky-rocketed by the way. Dell's computers, during their big sale, had the addition of a 9-cell in place of a 6-cell as a $329 increase, I believe. -
do you guys think it's worth purchasing now or waiting until centrino 2comes out in a few months?
-
It really depends on if price is a concern for you. It is for me so I opted to buy now and just ordered a X61 yesterday with the 2.4 Ghz Penryn CPU with all upgrades for $1061 (except turbomemory). With these specs, this laptop isn't going to be outdated anytime soon. The price is really good right now so if you are strapped for cash then buy now otherwise you can wait. I have a gut feeling when the new systems are out, don't expect to be able to purchase them for $1000 like it is now. Just look at the X300 as an example. It is starting at $2900 - $800 (for SSD) = $2100. The new systems are going to having even more upgrades than the X300. I think they will start out at $1500-2000 but probably by next year this time, the prices would drop to around the current prices.
-
What is it that the next generation Centrino does for you at a higher price, that the current generation Centrino won't do for you now and for some time to come?
-
Not to indulge in cliches, but something better, faster, cheaper is always coming out in a few months. If current models do what you need at a price you can live with, buy now.
Whoa, prices jumped
