Thinkpads are not expensive in Europe. Check the bloody exchange rate. The Euro absolutely owns the Dollar.

That's true, but your conclusion is wrong: everything is more expensive in Europe when comparing to USA

Here's my question about currency exchanges:
The dollar is worth way more than a peso. It would take a very long time in Mexico, earning pesos to get 10 dollars, but earning $10 in one hour in the US is common.

The Euro is worth more than the dollar, but what is an average wage in Europe in Euros per hour?

The Euro is worth more, but how hard is it to earn them?

    That's very interesting but irrelevant.
What matters: where we can buy the same product cheaper and why?

Depends on the country - in Poland the average wage is around $900 (we are probably the poorest EU member), but I personally know a LOT of people (including teachers, doctors) that earn as much as $300 - $400 a month. So that average is a bit misleading, because it is usually lead by very high-wages of minority of the rich people.

Now, keep in mind, that thinkpads are here around 60-70 % more expensive than in USA. Now compare our monthly wages and what we can buy for them. You can see, that for us, thinkpads are _relatively_ hundreds % more expensive than for average Americans. But well, that's life.

P.S. Ok, I'm a lucky bastard and I earn more than national average.. :p

MagLite, along with the Big Three in Detroit, are the last bastions of the once mighty American Industrial economy. Sadly, almost everything has moved off shores. We are now a nation of mostly speculators, sales clerks and Pizza delivery boys...

Yeah, I am Danish. The international warranty covers Denmark too.

    jcv,
What is your T61 type? Please let us know how it works out.

It is harder to earn an Euro in the Eastern and the Souther part of EU. In the Norther part, like Denmark, we the minimum wage is fairly high. I certainly earns quite a bit more than the average polish income. I also give up 49% of my income in taxes (I think) -- and I am happy too.

I think I am a bit lucky, but it's OT. I just wanted to point out to some of the users, where the frustration might come from. We are so poor and yet, we have to pay so much more for the same thing (even taking into consideration absolute values only). So yes, having an opportunity to get the notebook directly from USA, I asked my cousin to order one and this way I saved at least $1000 (by not buying the machine here). At least I didn't steal it ;)

    I have a 7664

It is BSOD'ing right out of the box, but besides that it's fine now. I have to get used to the low resolution (1440x900) screen. I have no problem with small characters, like some people do. I really wish that 1680x1050 would have been an option. My desktopscreen is a Samsung 204Ts (Yes,Silver, we can't get the black one in Europe...... ) with 1600x1200, so only 900 vertical is a bit poor.

I payed $1667.49 (included shipping), around (damn, how I do type that Euro symbol fast without numeric keyboard?) € 1260 (€ 13.50 bankcosts).
The shipping cost where $ 110.49
The customs value on the box is $ 1557.00

I have not yet paid the VAT; haven't seen a bill for it yet, I heard to you will get that bill something like three weeks later. Anyway, I calculated to pay 19% VAT, if they forget it's an bonus.

I was so stupid to fill in two times the ABA# (also in the Account# field). So I waited before I knew from my bank that the money was coming back, transferred it again with the right numbers. So that's why it took a bit longer. But I got my money back, so I only lost that bankcosts (€ 13.50), fieeew, better 13.50 than 1250.00)

Shipping was really fast. They received my money late on 06-20. So they send out my package on 06-21. 06-23 was Saturday, 06-24 was Sunday, and it was here on around 2 PM local time. Verry good :)

I think i will tomorrow start with the re-install. :D

BTW in Italy T series gets only 3-years warranty (no way to get less), the T61 (14.1", 2GHz, Quadro) can be found @ 1500Euro taxes included in some local online shops. For some reason the 15" T60p with flexiview screen was ridiculously expensive in our part of the world topping near 3700Euro (almost $5,000).

I heard from my Chinese frineds, Lenovo does this not only in EU but also in China. Lenovo always sells relatively low-end laptops in China while charges >50% more than in US.

Economical sanction as a punish to China for supporting the civil wars in Afrika, what each time has to be stopped with mostly US soldiers. ;)
