    Wisdom in the comments.

One guy in one "official" ThinkPad distributor here in Europe told me Lenovo doesn't ship it's best quality of models here. May or may not be true but what's definitely the case is that they not bother much to sell here their best offerings. Why?

Heck, even Apple is much more consistent with the even worldwide distribution of it's goods.

If you live outside the US: try to order your machine through Forwardit.us.

    There's another reason.

    example comparison of price:

    ThinkPad Edge E420s i5-2410, 4GB, 320GB,

    US$ €EUR
    $749 950€
    505€

So, price is almost twice in many places outside USA (esp. EU) and to add insult to the injury, the US model comes with a free upgrade to 500GB HD.

    Sigh.

The power you have in your relationship with Lenovo is to buy something else until they get the message.

Disgruntled employee or competitor's sock puppet?

The thinkpads all come from the same factories in China, its the same quality everywhere.

Electronics is more expensive in Europe. Taxes and recycling fees, and higher profit margins through out the industry. Part of it is a catch-22 where europeans are less likely to upgrade to the newest model hence Lenovo starts offering it in the US before the rest of the world hence europeans are less likely to upgrade to the latest model...

Sad, but true.. While people in the US get the latest models (T420, W520, X220) for less then $1000, we Europeans have a hard time getting a T400 or X200 for that kind of money.

So demand for older models must be higher over here which might be the reason that 'older' (not inferior) models get shipped to Europe.

I agree. I was interested in a X220 with IPS. I live in Sweden and still no signs of IPS eqipped X220's here. In fact you can't even tell IPS and none-IPS apart here due to flaky specifications. Think I might buy a higher end desktop screen instead now. Good riddance Lenovo.
