The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Renee,

If you want to see how a professional technical forum operates, see this: Home - MC Press Online Forums

I hung out there, for close to thirty years. I was also a member of Common: COMMON A Users Group

After I retired, I didn't have a need to maintain my membership in these technical discussions, because I wasn't using the IBM Power system anymore. So I moved on to other PC based technical forums. There is a big difference. Mainly, in the NBR forum, a newbie, is truly clueless, whereas in the professional IBM forums, the posters are pretty much already in touch with their hardware/software. You don't need to explain to them "how do you turn on this machine?" :D

Even at the Lenovo forum, as ajkula66 said, there are knowledge base articles, that hardly anyone takes the time to read. So newbies tend to post something like this, "Hey, I just turned on my laptop, and the screen is all dark! Please hurry to fix my problem." :rolleyes2:

I will give you one thing. I just can't believe the amount of "off the wall" rumors/comments/opinions being promulgated in some of the owners threads. "I heard from a friend, that has a friend, who swore he saw a holographic screen display on such and such laptop, at CES. Where can I buy one, NOW?"

Did I say I'd like to see how a professional forum operates? I was discussing this forum....

Do you want to continue to see posts like that? I'd put that newbie on the spot...

And what's wrong with "newbies" weren't we all at some point one? So maybe we all don't have the tech knowledge you do but c'mon your gripes seem rather useless if you don't offer some solutions.
In the end if you don't like what you see here look elsewhere, the world is constantly evolving, some good some bad.

I can't speak for Dragnoak, but I honestly doubt that anyone in their right mind does...however...

I used to do that *a lot* in the early days of Lenovo Forums. That's when people get really nasty - to the point that I got compared to Rush Limbaugh in one thread - all the hell breaks loose and threads get deleted. You could ask JaneL how many times she and other Mods/Admins had to go in and clean/delete threads over there...way too many times to count I'd say...

Nowadays, I post a lot less on LF as a result...and would've been long gone if it were not for a couple of dear friends that I still have over there...

I don't particularly care for threads of any type that go on for hundreds of pages, but that is unlikely to change. This thread, however, has run its course. Those who like the owner's threads, enjoy them! Those who don't, start your own single topic threads. Closing this thread.
