Why are all the etailers that sell new leftover T60/T60s charging so much?

I see there are a lot of leftover new in box T60/T61 models, but the etailers that have them are asking upwards of $1400. This seems rather insane given that this much money would buy you a much newer and faster Thinkpad with an all around improvement in just about every category. They can't possibly hope to sell them at this price, so what is the point? Can they be bargained with?

Google and Bing give the impression that that the existing inventory of older ThinkPad models is rather large. However, most of the listings that I've checked have no inventory available. And if you have no inventory, you can charge whatever you want.

The deals on a new T61 at the Lenovo Outlet look comparable to the one I got when the T61 was still in production.
