The price difference between s and non s machines was more then the screens. You get a lower voltage cpu and thinner chassis. I think adding the screen for 100-150 alone would cover lenovo well for just that option, although I do love the thinner lighter and lower voltage cpu. Although the new x220 is slightly bigger, thinking about what it could be in 2012 makes me drool. ULV quad core, 1600x900 screen, 23+ hours of battery life. Although the same (1920x1080 screen though) offered in a t4XX in 2012 would be just as nice.

I had a brief hands-on on a 11.6" (same res) Sony laptop today, as well as a couple of 13-inchers and the bottom line is, I'm getting me a x220 as the next business machine. :) The resolution isn't that bad at all, imho. Can always hook it to an external screen with Vidock do play Crysis and Metro. I've been trying to get a couple of these beasts (X220 and X220T) for a review, but looks like nobody has these in Canada yet :(

I don't think you're gonna be playing Crysis or Metro on any of the X20x machines...

On the other hand, how easy did you find it to work w/ Word and Excel?

Yesterday I was looking at the 13" MBP and 13" MBA at the Apple store and the difference was like looking at the X201 and X201s. I prefer the X201s over the X201 screen resolution and preferred the 13" MBA over the 13" MBP at the Apple store. Unless Lenovo offers a highs screen resolution on their new X220 I won't be upgrading my X201s. If they do offer a higher screen resolution with better specs such as a built in HD cam as well then it would make sense to sell my older X201s and get the newer one. I have an Intel 160 GB G2 SSD in my X201s so it is plenty quick for me for the time being.

For those that had the regular X201 and are now being offered an IPS screen and a better built in HD webcam the new offerings are a good update in every way but for those that have the X201s may not find this to be the case. It all depends on where you are coming from on your last computer.

Hopefully, they will still have the IPS screen on the next version and in 1600*900.

Yea, well, there are all sorts of engineers and zealots at many of the software and hardware companies. Running DB2 on OS X... talk about fringe.

Back to the topic, I certainly hope Lenovo adds another resolution option for the X220. Looks like a strong little machine.

But according to some of the T420 owner reports, that machine is getting good battery life on the 6 and 9 cell. So for peeps that want a higher res machine, there is a decent ThinkPad choice.

There is no guarantee that the supply for these 1366x768 IPS screens will last through the end of this season. :)

CPU wise the X220 will handle every game. GPU wise, I'll be using a DIY Vidock (HD6990 or GTX590) + external monitor, so it should be fine ;)

I don't mind the extra scrolling, so it should be ok. If I had a need for software development, design, etc, that would be really inconvenient with this res.

Cato the Elder (III-II BC): "Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam."
    Menos the Elder (XX-XXI): "Furthermore, I think X220s deserves 147PPI (i.e. the 1600x900 resolution)."

I think people saw the x200s and x201s offer WXGA+ and now x220 only has 1368x768 and IPS is just a meh option.

The question really is: can the X220's guts be modded into a T60p?
