Hello folks.
I am thinking of acquiring a laptop computer (doesn't need to be portable at all, in fact I wouldn't care if it weighted 10 kgs). What I need is a good keyboard and a nice screen. 1Gb ram, 80 gb hdd, no integrated graphics nor OS. It seems the thinkpad T60 has the very best keyboard and since I have to type a lot on that thing, that would be a deciding factor.
Anyone can comment on the T60 keyboard mechanism? is it mechanical? can I order one of those NMB keyboards ? haven't found a way to do it through their website. Looks like you get whatever keyboard Lenovo has contracted to mount in that batch. May be it's overkill and there are some 17" portable computers out there with almost as good keyboard for about the same price and it is just better to acquire one of them and couple it with an external lenovo thinkplus keyboard. What is your opinion?

Thinkpads have excellent keyboards, I don't think there is a 17" Thinkpad.

ThinkPads have the best keyboards ever. I prefer them over desktops' keyboards. Since weight isn't an issue, I would recommend the 15" T60 with flexview. I used to have a 14" t60, the keyboard is superb but the screen could be brighter.

Well, HP offers excellent 17" notebooks, their keyboards are very close to ThinkPads
Check out the HP nx9420 or the new HP 8710p, which will be out next month
