Why can't I find the Thinkpad Z61 on Lenovo's site?

Am I terrible at navigating this wild series of tubes that we call the Internet, or is there no trace of the Thinkpad Z61 on Lenovo's own site?

Because I'm looking to get one, maybe, and tons of people are selling 'em, but I can't find out any "official" info on it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The Z series have been discontinued. You will only find the X, R, and T series on the Lenovo website. If you want to buy a Z series, you will have to buy it from their outlet: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/LenovoOutlet

Wow, the Z series was discontinued some time ago...

Are you sure that you are looking for the Z61 but not something else?

It is discontinued, because it was the first wide screen laptop, and now the T and the R series have wide screens making the Z series useless.

    Thanks y'all!

Well, I'm not sure what I'm looking for to be honest. I'm going to Thailand and want a Thinkpad to take with me into the jungle for some serious trekking. Whatever I get will end up taking a real beating so I'm looking for something used. Also, I have to factor in a budget of $600-800 MAX. $800 if I sell a kidney or something. So money is super-tight.

Anyhow, when I look at Craigslist, eBay, here and elsewhere, I keep seeing the Z61 with decent specs and the screen size I want (14"). But otherwise, I'm unsure about how good it is because I haven't been able to find some serious, concrete info.

    Any suggestions?

Well, the thing is that the Z series had also titanum lid and robust speakers located on the sides of the keyboard, so if they offered that again, I would buy it again.

    Thanks Dreamer!

That was a solid review and the comments were helpful too. Looks like a pretty good choice. Now I just need to find out if I can get a better battery for it, like an 8-9 cell.

You can get a 7 cells battery and use an ultrabay battery as well...

I had the good fortune to get to write the review for the Z61m. It was one of, if not the most, solid laptops I've ever used. If you need mobility, I'd definitely stick with the Z61t, the Z61m is a bit heavy.

The difference between the 't' and the 'm' is the screen size, correct?

Sale may be over :( sorry about that, I pulled it from another site cause I almost ordered this baby last week. I heard that onthe downside the keyboard has to be removed to upgrade the memory but I don't have any real documentation to back that up. However it seems to procesor might be upgradable and not soldered to the MB.

Good luck! Oh and on that price listed that was with the regular battery the 7 cell added about $80-$100 if I remember correctly.

Oh well. No worries. But now I'm liking this Z61 more and more, considering the many positive responses and feedbacks.

    And so, the search continues...

But while we're on the subject - is the T61 a worthy successor, considering my travel situation?

It might be a little tough to get a T61 for around $600, you might be better off with the R series. Do you mind integrated graphics?

No. I think I read somewhere that integrated graphics are better for battery life. I want the longest battery life possible, so that'd be a plus.
