I really like the Thinkpads (had a T61p). With the latest discounts etc it is soo tempting to buy one.. The only problem is this i7 shortage, as well as the lack of the high res screens for the T510 (WUXGA).

Also the lead times for simple things like a camera module, or 256gb "low halogen" hard drive.. its like a walmart before a long weekend - everything out of stock lol

There are certain things I like to get at the time of ordering, the things you cannot easily upgrade later:

CPU (ok you can upgrade, but have to pay for a whole new cpu)
LCD - I like to get the max resolution possible.

With my T61p I had 1920x1200 lcd, it was really dim and text was kind of small sometimes, but it was sooo nice to be able to have more space!

Anyone else waiting for the Full HD (1920x1080) lcd's before ordering? I don't want to order a laptop and wait over a month to get it lol, My T61p took maybe 1-2 weeks from order to delivery which was fine.

if you don't want to wait, you have to order the options that are available
if you want better options, you'll have to wait
    simple as that

Well thats obvious.. I was just wondering if other people decided to wait on these options, or if it wasn't such a big deal to them.

I wouldn't mind waiting, but another issue is that they don't mention how long until the FHD screens will be back... If I knew say in june that they would be available then I would be more willing to wait before ordering. Having no ETA (or option to order and wait xx weeks) makes it harder to wait.

Just to be clear, I'm not faulting lenovo or anything. They probobly don't know when they will receive stock. Just wondering if others are waiting to order until those options are available.

Well the normal option in a free economy is to go to their competitor and order from them instead. Waiting on a company that likes to keep you waiting aint gonna get you any better service.

I doubt Lenovo cares if they lose a few people to other companies. The college I go to has a contract with them and they by hundreds of laptops every semester. Corporations, large businesses, and government organizations use these laptops. They are going to care a whole lot less about one person buying a laptop then someone who buys hundreds of them at a time.

Loss of potential sales is still important even if it isn't for a large contract.

Lenovo is short on LV i7's for its larger customers too. Seems whoever made the buying decision screwed Lenovo out of some of its laptop offerings for a few months, which is very costly.
