I have a thinkpad r51, 1.6ghz M, 516 RAM and 10gb free out of 40gb (which is really 6gb used after all that other crap that they jip you out of). I purchased it 2 years ago and it runs so slow now. I keep it up to date, don't run too much different programs, just iTunes and Firefox with some extensions. I've ran CCleaner and Virus scanners. I've done msconfig and Hijackthis and all that other crazy stuff you find on the internet.

Is it because it is out of date already? My 500mhz desktop almost runs faster.

A fragmented hard-disk is often the cause of a slow computer. Did yo use disk defragmenter?

Did you try running HD Tune or PC-Doctor?
