I am close to buying a student laptop from lapstars.de but I want to upgrade to onsite warranty. But I just dont understand why is courier 37euro while onsite is 27euro? Isnt the on site better? The standard warranty is 3 year bring in so upgrading is quite cheap in my opinion

Garantie-Upgrade 3 Jahre Bring-In auf 3 Jahre Vor-Ort NBD* is upgrading to 3 year on site service (Not sure what the NBD stands for)
Garantie-Upgrade 3 Jahre Bring-In auf 3 Jahre Courier The 3 year courier service

My guess is that it have to do with your student discount for the onsite upgrade.

Year you might be correct that the onsite is not covered under the student discount and the NBD is only a note that you have to be a student etc to buy it, then the onsite price is a steal :)

Then I am pretty much ready to order this, but just not sure if the Quadro 1000m is powerful enough :/ but getting the 2000M is 350euro more which is a lot (I do get a 2820QM though as well but thats a minor upgrade)

I think Nvidia 1000m would probably be a good buy. If you need more performance down the line get an eGPU with a desktop quadro card which would be more powerful than what the Nvidia 2000m would offer.

I have a DIY vidock, but when I used it with my X201 Tablet it was okayish but not more than that, but that was pcie x1 1.0 the W520 supports 2.0 but from what I understand then the diy vidock I have dont, not entirely sure though.

which graphics card do you have? also performance sluggishness of your X201t may always be due to the eGPU and its graphics card, it could be that the CPU is not keeping up (what is the CPU load when you run a graphics intensive program).

Several of the W520 with the 2000m machine that is used by a company that i know have said that if they run GPU intensive program on the W520 2000m it would throttle back after a while due to overheating, which didn't occur on the W520. I am sure whether this is isolated incident or whether this due to the fact that the fan/heatsink can't keep up with the quad core CPU and 2000m working at their 100% load.

I didnt test it, but it was a Intel i7-620LM (So low power model, 2gz - 2.7ghz) and a GTX460, but a game like starcraft would slow down in big battles (I run on lowest gfx settings)

Not sure if it was the cpu or the gpu. But this W520 should be much much more potent

I also opted for this as the price seemed good. My guess is NBD='Next Business Day' which has not been translated into German for some reason, but I could be wrong...
