I understand you pay a premium for IBM...but 2599 for the cheapest x1400 system is sorta ridiculous? Is there something I'm missing in order to get a cheaper system?

At least the system is specced pretty well. 2GHz Core Duo, 1GB ram, 100GB HD, 15" SXGA+, DVD-RW, Bluetooth, Wireless, Fingerprint Reader and 3-year warranty.

In Canada, $2385 US ($2740 US after ~15% sales tax in most of Canada) gets us this beauty: 1.83GHz Core Duo, 512MB ram, 60GB HD, 15" XGA, Intel GMA950, CD-RW, wireless, no bluetooth, no fingerprint reader. There aren't even any T60's with non-integrated graphics or high resolution screens for sale.

It's even worse in some other countries from what I gather.

Yeah it was exactly the same here in Australia until about a week ago we got alot of new models but they start at 1024x768 with a 64m x1300, and then catapault to 1600x1200 with 256MB ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 with the t60p for AU$6,599!!! With no 1400x1050 available at all :(

Hopefully there will be another update soon both here and in Canada. I think Lenovo are hopefully starting to get themselves organised.

Same here :( I'm waiting for information of more models to come available (in tabook), before I'm making a choice. When I'm looking, the model I have in mind should be around 2400 Euros, when you convert currencies (USD -> EUR) (in the US it's somewhat 2750 USD is what I can find aboiut prices). But how realistic that is, I don't know...

When they say available, I presume they just mean available to order? Considering how long it took people to get their Z-series machines, I imagine these T60s will not be arriving until May? I have to get a machine before the end of our fiscal year (Mar 31), and wanted a new Thinkpad, but the way things are going, I seriously doubt that will happen. Sigh.

I think the only way to find out how this is going to develop, is to wait...
For me, this wait is not so bad afterall, because of I must save some money for it first....

well, depending on your budget flexibility and how devious you want to be, you could buy a unit you can get by the 31st, and then return it for the one you want.
