I have bought my T61 for just one month ago. But find the hard drive is so noisy. How about yours? is my hard drive defective? or it is normal? thanks

It's the sounds like Grinding all the time!

I 'am using XP sp3, the hard drive is HITACHI 160G 5400

If you think it's too noisy, call support and get a new one.

Like zephyrus17 asked...which OD are you using?

If it's XP and you have a decent amount of memory than it might be the hard drive. If its Vista, disk thrasing is fairly common. You can search the 'internets' for more info on Vista's hard drive love-making sounds.

You must be in a noisy environment or have bad ears...

I have vista and I have to put my computer up to my ear to be able to hear anything, even in a quiet environment.

'Internets' is that a dig at GWB? hehe

Whoever said they can't hear anything from their "full size" NB is either exaggerating or has very bad ears. Or maybe I just have good ears?

HDD access, CPU, fan, they all make some kind of noise. I own 3 Hitachi HDDs and I can hear some kind of noise when there is HDD access. And Yes, I know the difference between HDD access and HDD dying ticking noise.

To the OP, if your HDD is "ticking" very loudly when reading/writing to the HDD, then there is a problem with your HDD.

I blame hair metal from the 80s. :(

Edit: I just started it up. Apart from the OS beeps and bloops, I really don't hear anything from the machine itself. Maybe something's wrong with your machine. :)
