Got mine today, compared screen side by side with my colleague's, mine is like 2 steps brighter, both were adjusted to max. brightness. Only diff. is my friend has Intel inside while I get Nvidia, but this shouldn't change LCD characteristic, should it?
T61 is one of topseller model, my friend ordered directly from Lenovo.
Will compare it with my T42p UXGA home tonight.

Can you find out which manufacturer makes both of your screens. There are two different manufacturers and I'm wondering if that makes a difference.

highly doubt the video card has anything to do with it. its most likely that you have a screen manufacturered by another company as mentioned before.

Do the 2 screens have the same resolution? The WSXGA+ screen is documented to be brighter than the WXGA one.

I know it's basic, but make sure that both machines have their brightness set to the same level before you compare! (Fn + PgUp to increase the brightness)

Also remember that the maximum brightness can vary depending on whether you are using battery power or the ac adapter.

I think the T42 were maybe not as bright.

Ignoring brightness, what do you think looks better, your UXGA screen or your WSXGA+ ?? Why?

Wow, after reading all replies, I guess the reason was my colleague was using battery while mine was on AC, though both are WXGA+ and FnPup to the highest level.

As far as the comparison to my IPS UXGA, yes, T61 is indeed brighter. But I like the color from IPS a lot more since it produces more true and nature color, which is more comfortable to my eyes. PS. I'm a heavy Photoshop user.

    Cheers
