    Why not the R61?

    My basic question is why not the R61 if you want a 14" screen. Specs can be configured to be the same and the chassis is no different.

    Correction. Chassis are different by .1" thickness. That .1" can go a long way in terms of portability. Otherwise, they are exactly the same.

    Personal preference really -- I wouldn't mind spending the extra money for a smaller laptop. (R61 vs T61)

    The R61 has two differences.

    1) Uses 12.5mm optical rather than T model 9.5mm optical. The 12.5mm thick optical increases the thickness of the R61 slightly, and lowers its cost of manufacture slightly.

    2) The T61 has Intels Active Management Technology, which is not particularly useful to a single user, but potentially very useful if there are a lot of laptops about.
