I'm really excited for the new X220.
I would have ordered it much sooner from a third party retailer, but the consensus here on NR seems to be that it's much cheaper to buy directly from lenovo.
But time and time again I find it much cheaper to buy from third party.
Take this link
And this one
Where as an x220i with a camera, 9 cell and 4gb (non IPS) is running me $999
directly from Lenovo.
Is there a reason as to why I should buy directly from lenovo?
Also, I couldn't find any coupons to bring the price down, but I am in college,
does Lenovo have any deals for college students?
Thank you very much in advance.

I'm not entirely sure. Try calling in directly to their sales line to talk to a rep. I talked to one the other day and before even mentioning any pricing (this was before any x220 pricing was "officially" released and published on the lenovo site) he said he could give me at least 10% off of the best price on the web.

A) Lenovo usually has ecoupons that lower the price, although you'll likely have to wait a few weeks for those to pop up for the new models.
B) You're on a computer enthusiast website--typically, we order laptops with minimal RAM and base HDDs, and upgrade these components ourselves, which in the end saves a lot of money (ie, Lenovo charge $80 to upgrade from 2GB to 4GB, whereas a DDR3 4GB SODIMM can be bought for as little as $32). Can't do that on CDW or any site that sells preconfig models.
C) You can't save on potentially useless extras (ie, fingerprint reader, Bluetooth, etc.) that you don't need but are bundled in a preconfig model. -
Currently there is 5% coupon on Lenovo website.
Would love to have 10% but have not seen yet. -
I don't think it is always true to be cheaper to buy from Lenovo, especially you need to pay tax if you buy from Lenovo, but no tax for a lot of retailers. I bought a preconfigured T420 from a retailer, and compared to buying directly from Lenovo, I got "W7 pro", "NVS 4200M" upgrades for free, even taking into account buying cheaper RAM and hard disk from newegg.
Why should I buy directly from Lenovo?
