Overpriced Lenovo
Look at the price of that... sure it's got an i7 but it's only got:
Intel Graphics
4GB of RAM
320GB Mechanical HDD
Generic 1366x768 display
Why on earth would anyone buy a Lenovo? It's got an i7, ok I'll give it that. But seriously for the price they're charing it might as well be filled with f¤"¤(!) gold! (Lol took that from another thread, brilliant!)
Did I also mention that Lenovo's are about the ugliest laptops on the market? They all look the same. Square little boxes.
I got my laptop:
i5-480M
GT 540M (dead after 5 months)
750GB WD7500BPKT
8GB DDR3 1333
All of that cost me about 900€ so the same price.
Ok so my GPU died but I'll get it replaced. No big deal.
I still have a computer that overall performance wise, could smoke that Lenovo... on top of that my laptop is sexier, streamlined and suitable for business or pleasure. Lenovo's are mainly business PCs sure. (Just integrated gfx sure) But please, someone find me a Lenovo for the same price as my Laptop with the same, or better components.
It's these reasons that make me wonder why we have so many competing laptop brands in the world today. HP, Acer, Dell, Toshiba, etc etc.
Dell has it's Alienware,
HP has it's Envy and they're giving away a free XBox 360 if you buy a laptop or PC over $700,
Acer laptops are cheap and usually last a long time, plus they come with really good hardware, far better than most other laptops. Other brands often try to swindle people with good GPU but cut back and offer an outdated Core 2 Duo or whatever.
Toshiba.. well.. actually I've never heard of a good toshiba computer... LOL
ASUS. Well I've had 3 mates who've all had their ASUS computers drop dead, and they say ASUS has the worst policy ever. That they'll make you send it back 4 times before they bother to replace it. I've heard nothing but bad things. Though, there is this BEAST of a laptop sitting in the store that I bought my laptop from. 1699€ it's the most expensive thing they have. 250GB SSD and a WD7500BPKT backup drive. Nvidia GTX 560M
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
Man I would sell my MOTHER (honestly) for one of those and it looks better than an ugly Alienware.
But back to my point. What exactly does Lenovo offer? I only ever see their computers in schools, or their monitors in schools or businesses. Ok so they're a business pc company. Why would anyone buy one to game then? They offer nothing in the way of style, they're overpriced and undergraded.
What's the selling point of a Lenovo?
I had the same idea about Sony laptops but I read something here yesterday from someone who had the same idea but changed his mind. Then again I'm still not convinced. They're overpriced as well.
So tell me, why did you get a Lenovo? What did the company do as the 'deal breaker' ?
Oh and one of the main reasons I ask is because on the left on the site here I ALWAYS see Lenovo's being advertised. I open the notebookreview website and there is a Lenovo on the front page somewhere ALWAYS.
-
-
There was no 'deal breaker' for me. My T410 has been going strong 16 months now, not once have I needed to send it in for repair. Minor quibbles here and there that I fixed on my own easily. I would say I definitely got my $900 worth and I expect my thinkpad to last me for some time to come.
Oh, and I absolutely love the plain, black, minimalist design of thinkpads! But to each their own. This has been by far the most reliable notebook I've owned to date.
Not sure my response to this troll thread was even worth my effort, but there you go. -
The Lenovo Y470 has:
i7-2630
550M graphics
for $850 after coupon.
Their thinkpad line is known for their legendary durability, and the W520 is a beast of a machine with the best battery life amongst the competing business lines (Dell M4600, HP 8560w)
Your views seem to be skewed and somewhat biased (Acers last a long time? They're known for bad build and being cheap). You can also get a free Xbox with many other brands beyond HP.
Lenovo simply offers the best price to performance ratio for many people, or it has the best build quality available for its price point. The "overpriced lenovo" you linked to is a 12.5" laptop with an i7. If you don't understand the basic principle of putting powerful components into a tiny chassis = expensive, the you might just be living up to your username. -
So you want a 'sexy' computer to play games on and get a free Xbox with it? You are right, Lenovo does not offer anything that will suit you.. As for the people that do buy a Lenovo, well.. maybe they already own a Xbox and have a 'sexy' wife?
-
One reason that I got one was customer service...
When I called HP they seemed very mad and passed that anger on to me. They couldn't answer my question and convinced me not to buy HP solely on the response I got.
When I called Dell they kept forcing unnecessary upgrades down my throat, I couldn't understand what they were saying (not to be racist) and everything just seemed to be such a slow procedure.
When I tried buying a Sony, there website was down and the rep didn't seem like he knew what he was talking about.
When I called Lenovo, I was quickly connected to a happy, customer friendly rep who seemed to have a great deal of expertise in Lenovo's laptops. She spoke clearly and was a joy to talk to. I asked her about different laptops (y470 and the T420) and she was able to give me details about both I wouldn't be able to find elsewhere. All around she was the best rep I got.
I heard Apple is pretty good too but it's way more overpriced. -
I could build a desktop that has an i7, 2tb HDD, 16gb of ram, full HD 20"+ screen, etc etc etc etc for way less than you paid for your i5.
Look a little deeper on the specs of that e22s. Its a 12" laptop with an i7 that is only .85" thick, weighs 3.2lbs and is rated for 6 hours of battery life. Putting big things in small packages to make them ultra portable is expensive, find me a comparable system that's cheaper.
As for why I got a Lenovo, I got the w520 and at the price point they sold me the best system with a 1920x1080 res screen and long battery life. Oh and I was shopping for a good laptop, not an X-box.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
First off are you here to troll? This is the Lenovo forum, and posting nonsense is already going to send a flare up with ThinkPad enthusiasts here.
Second, business laptops tend to cost more than consumer grade notebooks. They are better built, more durable, parts compatibility is very good. You don't see many IT people using Alienwares as their workhorse laptop do you?
Lastly, it is a 12" ultraportable business laptop. The fact it has to cool an i7 and still be SFF, already adds a premium to the price. You see the Samsung 9 series and MBA cost an arm and a leg because they are so slim? Same concept here, but not only does Lenovo have a premium, all manufacturers do. -
Just shut up
-
No-one's asking you to buy a Lenovo.
If you want a games machine, go and buy one and post on a games forum.
Bye! -
I hope you realize that you are comparing the last generation i5 to the new generation i7. The i7's are overly priced and its probably worth over $300 than the last gen i5 since its a $200 upgrade from the current i5.
Also, what really bothers me is that people compare laptops by the HDD and RAM. Those 2 are probably the cheapest components of the laptop and they do not mean anything in the end especially when some laptops like the Thinkpads allow you to replace them on your own. You can get 8Gigs of ram for around $40-50. You can buy 500Gig 7200PRM HDDs for around $70-80. -
For the exact reasons why you wouldn't buy one. Their boxy black minimalistic design is simply the best looking thing on the market. Also, I would never buy a laptop with anything glossy on it, period. ThinkPads have the best battery lives, don't forget that. If you prefer the cheap crap that other manufacturers make, that's your preference. You don't have to come here and rant about it.
-
I would never buy a consumer Lenovo, or any consumer laptop period. Acer, HP Pavilion, Dell Inspiron, all crap imho. Business laptops are worth the premium commanded for them imho.
I personally buy business laptops, mainly from the big three Dell Latitude, HP EliteBook, and Lenovo Thinkpad. Panasonic Toughbooks our nice, but they're really expensive and heavy and I don't value the ability to use my laptop as a blunt weapon that much.
Why business laptops then.
-More durable, I think every business laptop in this generation passes MIL-STD-810G. Not that many consumer laptops will, definitely not an Acer.
-More reliable.
-Better keyboards
-The trackpoint/imitations of it
-Matte screen/Matte everything
-Business look. -
Okay, so why have I bought not one but several? One of the core reasons why is the fact they're durable and not flashy. My T500 survived an eight foot drop while in its bag with the primary casualty being a smattering of dead pixels on the LCD. My ThinkPad T21 has been kicking around for ten years and still works perfectly. My X200 looks like it's been through a meat grinder but still performs like new.
Compare that to the plastic consumer crap that friends and family have had that pretty much got trashed within a couple months or years at the most and is so severely hard to service it's not funny... I'm looking squarely at HP for that.
While so many companies release flashy, glitzy laptops but with Kia-like build quality, I liken Lenovo ThinkPads to, say, an Acura RL/Honda Legend, or any reliable, upscale car... built tough, not as flashy but elegant in its own way, and not going to fall apart on you even if you beat on it a bit. -
@OP
To be able to do actual work, instead of dicking around on a computer.
That said, there was a thread like this last week. (Among probably many many others in the past...) Also, I found Thinkpads much more aesthetically pleasing than pretty much any Dell Inspiron, XPS, Studio, Vostro or Latitude. -
Lenovos are cheap with EPP + discount.
I ordered my X220 $770 + tax (which i write of as an expense)
Add 8GB RAM + 128GB SSD for $260
$1030 +tax for an ultraportable with those specs and IPS.
Noone can match that.
Now i'll admit, if the IPS screen has issues, then ya screw lenovo. -
-
The "built tough" aspect of the Thinkpad line has gone down a bit, I know because I owe a lot of them, but it's still one of the best built laptops out there, because, well, HP and Dell cut corners on their business line up as well.
Now, the cheap laptop you get for whatever price you think is cheap from the store is made of entirely ABS plastic. Thinkpad has magnesium skeleton (sadly the lid no longer does) and carbon fibre reinforced plastic. On top of that, support of business line laptops are WAY better, and I mean that miles better...There are many more things to add but I'm too lazy to type right now
My T42 is still kicking after almost 7 years. Just saying
There's a reason why a BMW is more expensive than a KIA, and not just because of brand name.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
The newest Latitudes are gut wrenchingly ugly, horrid, disgusting. That is the main reason why I jumped ship TO Lenovo, ThinkPad has stood the test of time with that classic look. I like the previous generation(s) Latitudes (E6x00, E6x10) as well as the D series Latitudes, but E6x20 is god awful.
I'd never consider HP as I always found them to run hot, and always expensive/overpriced.
And since I only buy business laptops for normal/business use, that just leaves me with Lenovo's ThinkPad. -
LOL.
ThinkPads are the best design ever. Everything has been written already.
Only thing I miss is 17" really desktop replacement. Like Dell M6600 but in Lenovo body. -
Let me get this straight... you paid 900 euros (1279.26 USD) for such poor specs?
You're living up to your username.
I paid 800 dollars for my Ideapad which came with an i5 2410m, Geforce 550M, 750GB hdd, Blu-ray drive, JBL speakers, with a battery life of 4 hours in a 14" chassis.
So no... lenovo offer anything with such poor specs for what you paid -
This thread smells like sock-puppets!
-
I don't know what's going on with the US site now, but I paid >$450 less than that for nearly the same laptop 3 months ago. I love it. Best laptop experience I've ever had (and I've owned a 12" PowerBook and a MacBook, if that's your flavor).
But your manners deserve at least a bit of ridicule, so I tried to call you words that are apparently filtered by the forum.
-
Also, to comment on your signature, how did you get a 20 cell battery? Sounds awesome. And if all 16:9 manufacturers went to hell, along with Apple, we'd have no more laptop manufacturers.
-
This guy is a tard lenovo is awesome
Why would ANYONE buy a Lenovo??!
