    I just bought a ThinkPad X24.

Apparently all the original software has been wiped, and it came with only standard WinXP SP2 installed.

I'm having trouble getting the internal WiFi card to work.
Model is "IBM high rate wireless LAN mini-PCI combo card"

Sometimes it works, then sometimes it fails.
Looking at Device Manager, I see a yellow ! and
    "Device cannot start (code 10)"

I tried to update the drivers, went to IBM and referred to Lenovo, got
    ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/1awc32ww.exe
    linked from
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-41929

I uninstalled the original driver, rebooted, and it was detected, and worked, but the next time I booted it was ! again.

    So I uninstalled and rebooted...

I can't get it to stay working.

I noticed when it was working that under "status" in Device Manager it said "unable to communicate with device driver". Also, if when it was working I ever tried to "repair connection" that would send the device into ! limbo again.

I assume it's a flaky driver? Are there any alternatives or any suggestions at all?

No change. I was already running XP SP2.

The hardware is from 2001/2. The last update to the drivers on Lenovo's site appears to be 2003.

Anyway, for the last day it has stayed working, no dreaded ! in Devices. More a matter of luck than skill I think.

I wondered what experiences others had with this card, if perhaps there were other drivers that worked better (same chipset, different label?) -- for one thing it seems not to be very sensitive, always rating signals as weak, when my Dell laptop rates them strong. I would have expected that having the antennae along the screen would be better than the PCMCIA stub.
