Hi guys,
Something I'm experiencing and finding odd. When I have my T61 at home (I have the standard Atheros a/b/g WiFi card, running XP Pro-SP2), and try to connect to a network share on my desktop box ("Start->Run->\\ip-address\sharename") it takes forever to bring up the password prompt so I can authenticate. I'd say it's as much as 20-30 seconds. Once connected, things seem fine, but it's driving me nuts, since I connect to this system fairly often. Sometimes I end up trying to connect a second time, since it causes me to wonder if I actually typed something in wrong.
Regular internet access via WiFi is fine, and I've never had this problem with my Powerbook G4, or Dell Latitude C640 (also Atheros-based). I've uninstalled the TinkVantage Access Connections to see if that would fix things, and updated the WiFi drivers via System Update; it hasn't solved this. I'm using a D-Link DGL-4300 GamersLounge router which has served me well for several years now, and I'm using WPA-Personal authentication (I'd go WPA2, but that raises issues with my D-Link media extender and some older laptops I fix for others). Does anyone have any ideas?

I wonder if the delay could be related to the Password Manager in the Client Security Solution software. IIRC it was popping up on my system every time I logged into shares on my network until I reconfigured it. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I had to disable Password Manager for the time being, since I downgraded from Vista to XP (clean install). The TPM was formatted for Vista, and would not re-enroll on XP. My thread regarding clearing the TPM chips was not replied to, leading me to believe that no-one knows how to do so on a T61, so I disabled the TPM in BIOS. Interestingly enough, fingerprint-reading still works.
It's an interesting possibility, though it probably doesn't apply in this case, and a well-thought-out guess, so reps to you.
EDIT: I disabled SuperG on my router just in case; it did not fix things. I just timed it with my watch --it took 90 seconds from clicking OK on the Run box to the time I got an authentication screen. Funny thing is, pings are just fine, no delay there. Remote Desktop Connection works relatively quickly too, to the exact same machine.
WiFi slow when connecting to network shares?
