Is there (presumably from 3rd party manufacturers) another IPS screen which is the correct size for the x230, but has a wider resolution? One of the annoying things about the x230 is the relatively narrow resolution (especially now compared to the x240)?

To the best of my knowledge, the answer to this question is "no".

Fitting such a screen - even if one exists - in a machine with UEFI BIOS is not going to be fun either, not by any stretch of imagination.
