I'm doubtful blu-ray will be all that common in a few years. One, it has competition from HD-DVD, and second there are still VHS tapes for sale.

Blue Ray will limit HD-DVD's lifespan.

The type numbers are available on Lenovo: 6369, 6370, 8741, 8742. Not much further and the models can't be added to the shopping cart.

I'd guess that there will be a widescreen T60p, or you could always go for a Z61p

Widescreens are most popular (by sales) in the 15-15.4" size range, so it's to be expected that the widescreen T will be in that range.

Who knows if they'll extend the offering to 14" later too... maybe.

The Z61p had the FireGL card, but it doesn't seem to be on lenovo's page anymore...

    Coz007,

How did you get that price after taxes? Configuring a Thinkpad T60 to my taste right now comes to $1,179 with the following:

    T60 Core 2 duo 7200
    14.1" SXGA
    80GB 5300 hardrive
    CD/DVD drive
    Thinkpad 11 a/b/g
    1400X ATI
    1 G RAM
    9 cell battery

This is before taxes (After it runs about $1,2500), and without Fat Wallet's 7% cash back. If I could configure your model with that price after taxes, I'd pull the trigger right away.

The hard drive is 5400rpm, and i'm assuming you mean $1,250 ;). You both have trade-offs, yours with a 9-cell battery but 1GB RAM, his 6-cell, but 1.5GB RAM (plus n wireless). As far as I have heard, it comes down to the sequence of links that you click to come to a certain configuration page. Try combining the discounts, perhaps doing it in a different order. Plus, his state may or may not have the same sales tax [rate] as yours (if he included tax w/ that], maybe he is giving up the fingerprint reader also.

One thing is for certain though, there are some GOOD sales going on in the U.S. right now with that machine.

In general, the 4th quarter is the most expensive time to buy ibm/lenovo because it's when corporate demand exceeds supply and prices are higher.

The best time for consumers is generally during the back to school sale in summer. This is when corporate sales are slow and prices are slashed.

The high-end x60(s) today still cost hundreds more than they did during the back to school sale for the same models (eg., 170469u, 170997u)

(i am talking about in the U.S.)

What do high-end X60(s) have that the other Xs don't? A Core 2 Duo? Other than that, upgraded RAM and Hard drive, you can't do a whole lot of customization to that machine.

Best of all, the EvDO capability. But also the docking station and super multiburner. Also they have the best parts most ppl want such as the NMB keyboard, Samsung screen and atheros instead of intel. at least in the 170469u and 170997u
