    Hello everyone,

I've ordered a T60, which has not been built yet, without the widescreen option. Has anyone here ordered the widesreen and wished that had got the normal sized screen? Or visa-versa?

Any help or comments on this would be appreciated. This way I can change my order if need be. Kinda hard since I can't see it in person.

    Thanks. :)

I think it depends on what you are doing. I use my R60 primarily for websurfing in which case I find the 1050 of SXGA+ to be more useful than having more space on the sides. If you are however doing say excel spreadsheets or watching movies, I would think a widescreen model would be more advantageous.

I think it depends a lot on preference as well. I used 4:3 screens for a long time, I only started using wide screen when I got my laptop. I must say that personally , I prefer a WS. The things I do the most our gaming, excel spreadsheets, word docs, matlab coding, and browsing. I like it because it allows me to keep a word doc and a xls spreadsheet side by side easier. This is just my personal opinion though of course.

I'm a programmer so most of the time it will be used for coding. In that scenario I've played it out. The Widescreen is an inch wider...but the normal screen is longer...so I really didn't think it would be too big a deal.

However I thought it might be nice for an occasional movie when traveling.

    Tough choice.

I was surfing around after posting this and noticed people having light leakage issues with the new widesreen's. So maybe I should just stay.

Don't just look at the size, but also at the resolution.

I prefer widescreens because I rarily use windows maximized anyway (unless the resolution is too small). And since the resolutions of widescreens often is greater than "eqvivalent" 4:3 display you do get more stuff on it.

But dispite that you get more stuff on it, you also get a smaller screen (15" 4:3 is bigger than 15" 16:10). And thats perfect, in my opinion.
That way, the text is smaller (no problem for me but I know others that don't agree), and you normally get a smaller laptop due to the smaller screen size - and thats a huge win since portability is a top priority on a laptop (again, my preference).

Also, a widescreen is better because you can have a smaller screen but at the same time have a large keyboard.

But in the end it's all about personal preference.
But IMHO, when it comes to programming and stuff like that, look at the resolution and not the size of the screen. Just because normal screens are taller doesn't mean that you will fit more on the height, might be the other way around.

Perhaps needles to say, but I'm a resoluton-freak so the more the better for me :p
And I'm really fond of small laptops so some of my thoughts might be moot for others.

I agree with tjoff except for one minor point. Some WS laptops aren't anysmaller, they Bezel forthe sreen is just changed. Everything else is bsolutely what I've encountered as well. I never miss vertical height now, but I absolutely miss the horizontal room.

    I recently switched from a 4:3 to a widesceen notebook (z61m 15.4" WSXGA+) and I would NEVER go back to 4:3.

Also note that widescreen's dimensions are closer to the golden ratio which is generally perceived by humans to be more pleasing.

Just an FTI for any other users happening upon this thread in the future with the same question:
I decided to go with the 4:3 screen due to lots of users complaining about the Lenovo widescreen showing bright light out the sides.

I would have preferred the widescreen, since I use a Dell 24" screen on my desktop, but didn't feel like having the issue above.

Thanks everyone for your comments and time.

I would wet my pants if Lenovo released a widescreen X60s. :(
