I have a T40, which has been working fine for almost 3 years. The LCD display recently has some wierd problems.

When I am using battery to power the laptop, everything is perfectly fine. This proves there is nothing wrong with the LCD display.

If I plug in the external power supply, the LCD will suddently go dark with dull image after a random time of normal display, a sympton very similar to damaged backlight, which I know is not the problem in this case since the display works all fine with battery power.

Do you guys have any idea what's the problem with my laptop?

    Thanks much in advance!
