On my W500 with Windows 7 64 bit my Wifi card is constantly turned off. It never does it when it is connected to a network but constantly does it when it isn't. I figure it is a power saving feature but I don't like it and I can't figure out how to disable it.

I just addressed this issue w/ my new Lenovo. It is a power-saving feature. Open up your Access Connections software. Make sure it's on "Advanced" view. Click on the Tools tab. Click on Global Settings. Uncheck the box that says "Allow the wireless LAN radio to be turned off when inactive."

    Fixed!

I'm not sure what the point of this feature was. The radio would never re-engage (for me) unless I manually did it via Windows.

Yeah... that is my thought as well. It would be a nice feature if it detected wifi networks that you could connect to and turn it back on.
