Is the Core Duo built on a different chipset than the T43? Will there be a Core Duo chip available for the T43 in the future? Does the T60 use a different chipset than the T43?

Lots of questions, I know. I don't have any need to upgrade right now. In 2 years, it would be nice to be able to put in a core duo chip.

Yes, core duo uses different chipset than T43. It will i945PM/GM, and I'm sure there is no core duo in T43. Lenovo has unveiled core duo for the T60.
And since T60 is core duo, it has different chipset than that of T43

    Oh yes..I forget that they're different socket :p :p
You should notice the pin difference between both, Dothan (Pentium M) on the left, Yonah (Core Duo) on the Right

Don't the T43's use the Sonoma chips instead of Dothan??

yeah, Sonoma is centrino platform consists of Dothan processor with 533MHz FSB & 2MB cache. The processor itself is 'old' dothan with higher fsb.Don't be confused with that :)

Is it possible to change the Processor in a notebook or is everything already glued in there?

Depends. Some are soldered to the board in which case you won't be able to swap it. Keep in mind, you'll void any warranty you have.

In order to change CPUs they not only have to be socketed, additionally the supporting chipset and BIOS implementation must fit too for certain CPU models.

Ok, I won't be upgrading my CPU, ever. I guess I will be stuck with my 1.7ghz for at least 2 more years.
