Hi there, very soon I may be purchasing a T42 from Newegg for $1479. I've had my eye set on it for several months now, even when it was nearly $1600. However I heard that IBM isn't going to make PCs or Laptops anymore, but my question is: What will I do if (God forbid) something happens to my machine that needs professional repair? Will IBM be able to repair it or do some sort of servicing?

Yes, IBM wil be handling the repairs for right now. But for the record, they haven't actually made a notebook in years, it's all done by companies in Asia.

Almost all laptops are made in Asia including IBM. They don't buy them, but rather they hire another firm to make them to their specifications.

Well I really appreciate your help :) Thanks Brian and Zaz. Here's a link to the notebook I have my eyes on, I think it's a great deal for what I need it for (web design, minor gaming, and usual email and word processing.) I just hope the graphics card performs much better than my 32 meg Radeon 7500. Cause for some reason with like 40% of games out there, I get a blue screen and it restarts the machine when I try playing them. It's very frustrating. Well, anyway, again thank you all.

Who would'nt want a notebook made by a company who no longer makes PCs? Besides, do you think any of them make their own product? All components are made by someone else. These companies only put their names on them. This is why it makes no difference which brand you decide on. Unload it when it's 1 or 2 yrs. old, collect 70%, and purchase a new one. If you dont, the technological game stays one step ahead of you.

The 9600 is an OK card. IBMs are never going to be great gaming machines. Maybe if the T43 get the x600 card. If you want a gaming machines, I would consider a 15" screen like the Asus z71v. Smaller notebooks are mostly made for portability not gaming. Some better choices for a smaller gaming machine would be the Acer 3204, Asus W3 or Sony S series. Of those I like the Asus the best. Asus are well built machines and come with three year warranties. Plus it has an 8x DVD burner, but it is about $400 more than the T42. Good Luck.
