I recently purchased a T400 with Win 7 Pro, and I want to replace the 500G drive that came with the laptop, with a 60G SSD (OCZ Agility) that I want to clean-install Windows 7 on.

From what I see and read, the Windows 7 ISO's that are available for download are not production Windows 7, but some form of Beta, or Release Candidate. I figure I paid for production Win 7 Pro, so I should be able to have that version to reinstall.

I will reuse the 500G drive to run Xen on the laptop.

Any help would be appreciated, especially if the releases of Win 7 that are available for ISO file download are the same as, or can be updated to a production version of Win 7.

    Thanks,

    John

You just make your recovery dvd's, install your new hdd, and reimage the disk. :) No need to download an iso or purchase a windows disc.

the official recovery disk is only obtainable from IBM support for free, if your hdd breaks down. Otherwise you will have to purchase it.

You can do a clean install with Recovery dvds (I did).

I have the BIOS SLIC problem on my T510. As part of the (attempted) resolution, Lenovo sent me the official recovery disks, thinking that would fix the licensing issues, since they said the license keys are in the disc.

I tried these for my SSD upgrade, and they behaved very much the same as the Recovery dvds I made, and used for an earlier HDD upgrade. Except, they were older, and the installation failed with blue screens at first boot. So I went back to the Recovery dvds I made, which worked fine. The official recovery dvds are in the trash.

If you have the BIOS SLIC problem, they might send you some. I suggest they have limited to no value on an SSD upgrade.

I'd definitely like to see Lenovo offer the OS disks along with the system. I like to make custom installs, maybe quite a few times, before I'm totally happy with everything and then can make an image and sleep well.
