I was thinking about about doing a vista install on the xp pro t61 I found, and was wondering about the role of System Update. If I just install Vista and then put on System Update, will it search out (for the most part) items that need drivers and then retrieve them ? Or will they need to have a version already installed that it can update?

Just wondering about this before I take the plunge on t.

    thanks!

System Update will do both; search for missing drivers and update current ones. Just be cautious about the new BIOS update as there have been multiple reports of it causing problems.

    Hi.

Vista system update, said it had a new display driver, so it removed my 174.74 and installed 163.69 and my 3dmark06demo score went down by almost 500 points.

    So use your own judgment.

    Regards

    John.

Do you mean the Windows Vista Update did that? Yeah, don't let Windows Update your hardware. Only let it update your operating system.

To clarify I'm talking about the 'system update' application from the lenovo website. I generally don't let windows update do driver stuff unless the existing one is perhaps the one that shipped with the system or such.

    thanks
