Yeah i know... i'm just wondering maybe they can lock it to only work on DELL.

I actually won one on ebay for 6 bucks shipped... I'm curious if it will perform better than the Atheros AGN... (i'm not too happy with it, and lenovo refuses to switch it to the Intel card)

I don't see how it could be locked to work only on Dells.
    Such a great deal, btw.
I like my 4965. It works as it should.

For it to work in the T61, would the T61 have to have shipped originally with the 802.11N to get the right antenna arrangement? So is this question about switching from Atheros AGN to Intel, or from some 802.11G to N?

    Atheros AGN -> Intel.

Phisiclly it should work. But i read that they lock W-WAN (cell cards) to specific manufacturers... wonder if they do it on wireless lan cards as well.

How is the Atheros card bad? Just curious, since in the previous generation Atheros seems to have taken the gold.

It says wireless AP are in range but can't connect to them. (OPEN)

Also i have periods where it just hangs and i have to restart (not too often)

I'm not sure if its a driver issue or not. But i can't just wait for them to fix it. for 6 bucks i'm willing to give the intel card a chance.

At least Intel had drivers on thier web site. Atheros doesn't support end users at all.

Its not a card issue that is a driver issue

I believe its mostly a driver issue. Maybe firmware.

    But still they go together.

I'll post back how it turns out with the intel.

I don't know about the T61, but my work T40 requires an IBM branded Intel wireless or IBM branded wireless card. You can't just go sticking in any wireless card. The way they worked it out is that there is an identifier on the card's PnP data that the BIOS looks for. If it's not authorized, the computer refuses to boot with the wireless card installed.

It should be no-1802 ... (only took me an hour to figure that out...)

But it seems like there's no solution for T6x ...

    Or is there?
