    Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying an X200 Ultrabase for about $150 (tax included).. Do you guys think that it will be compatible with the upcoming X210 next year? The X200 is my first Thinkpad so I'm not too familiar with how Lenovo deals with these things..

    Thanks!

    Faruk

I believe the refresh is mainly what intel is refreshing and not anything drastic. So seems like it should be compatible.

Hey thanks for the reply jaredy.. That's what I was thinking too, I was just hoping that they don't do what they did with the T400 and T400s :p Hopefully they don't :)

Next generation Intel will be interesting.. I wonder if the X210 will have the CPU/GPU hybrid.

Anyway, it's been almost a year since I've had this X200, so once I've had it for 2 years I might go for the X210, so I just wanted to check and see about the docking station :)

I don't like speculating on unannounced products, but normally accessories stay the same within each major revision (e.g. T4x, x6x, etc.).

Also remember lenovo is sort of moving away from having specific docking stations and moving towards doing a lot more functional port replicators. So I wouldn't see them changing the docks repeatedly as they build more functionality into replicators connected via usb.

Yes, they are following the bad road like their competition does.

Who wants a monitor driven by a USB videocard? Come on; that sucks. Bigtime! I want a PCI-e videocard in the dockingstation.

USB adapters are only necessary if more than two external displays are needed.   ideally you should purchase a thinkpad with a discreet GPU so you can use the dock's native DVI or displayport sockets.

a PCI-e card in the dock is a good idea, however, considering the astronomical prices of PCI-e GPUs, you'd be looking at an $800+ dock.   the market for such a device would be extremely small, especially when trying to combine a small notebook like the X200/X200s with a high-end GPU like the FX 2700m or FX 3700m.

in my opinion, if a W500 or W700 doesn't fit your GPU needs then it might be time to start looking into a thinkcentre or thinkstation.   it would be a much better investment than an $800 dock. ;)

    good idea though.   seriously.

That's because the T400s isn't a replacement for the T400, but a separate model in and of itself. ;)

Oh ya...that's right. Meh...well I guess in the long run that will be better.
