Did they change the exterior of the t61 in any significant way?

Actually yes. One major glaring error that Lenovo has followed other manufacturers into making is putting the damned headphone ports on the front of the laptop. Who the heck does that? Don't they realise it's a LAPtop? If you only ever use it on a desk that's fine, but try using external speakers or headphones with it e.g. in bed. You can't. That will be a dealbreaker for me and I will get the T61 15" for as cheap as I can just before the new ones come out.

Yes, some of the ports are rearranged, the touchpad is bigger, there is a "Lenovo" inscription on the left side of the lid, webcam...etc. but none of those make the W500 look significantly different from T61p, at least for me.

As for the jacks on the front, it's annoying and I can't stand that, plus it is, or at least it was, something typical for consumer notebooks for same reason... Either way, we have gone through that before, some like it, others hate it...

why is it all of Lenovo data sheets show the P9500 with only 3mb of cache? Thats a pretty glaring mistake.

Right, especially because this one seems to be the best choice (2.5GHz with only 25W TDP)!

And more expensive too, of course.
