A buddy of mines claims that there will be a 12.1" Thinkpad coming out soon from IBM. I know there is the Lenovo 3000 series 12.1" widescreen V200 but it is still not a Thinkpad nor does it share the same quality.

However, if there is any truth to a widescreen 12in Thinkpad, I will certainly wait for one. Anyone have any idea??

The closest thing I could think that there would be to this would be a widescreen version of the 12.1" screen X61. But I would think they would have announced that when the X61 came out if they were going to do one.

Please, no 12inch wide screen. The 14inch wide screen is really vertically challenged as it is, I shudder to think how horrid it would be on a 12inch.

Maybe that's why Dell discontinued their 12inch XPS, and switched to a 13inch standard aspect ratio screen on the replacement model.

I am looking for a light portable and have reviewed the options from Lenovo, Toshiba and HP. They all seem comparable. I will never buy a Dell product again and want to purchase it from a local dealer with local service options.

I typically use it at home for internet and writing. I travel about 100 days per year and need it for travel and home use on my lap.. I have office and home desktops as well but the laptop fills the void when I am not at my desk.

Are there any clear winners out there? Light and speed are more important with little or no use for sound quality, battery life or other desirable features. The key board is also critical I have found. I prefer touchpads but I have used pointers on a Toshiba.

    Any thoughts out there?

Either the x60 or the new x61 will be exactly what you are looking for. And if you want a tablet, I have heard nothing but great things about these same laptops in the tablet form.

I would strongly recommend the X60 or X61 then. Especially since you mentioned the keyboard. Frankly, the keyboard on the X60 is one of the best of ANY laptop i've used (including full-size ones). It's incredibly easy and comfortable to type on, which amazed me given the smaller size. I actually tried it back and forth with a fullsize ThinkPad T60 (known for having one of the best keyboards in the industry), and I think it was at least on par (I might even go so far as to say I found the X60 keyboard slightly MORE comfortable to type on, as crazy as that sounds).

Compared to other laptops in its size and weight class, I just don't think anything compares to the X60 keyboard.

The XPS M1330 is a 13'' widescreen apsect ratio display.

I don't see Lenovo making a 12'' widescreen X61 anytime soon. They just came out with the X61 not too long aso, so I don't expect to see an update for at least a year. There just isn't that great of a demand for a 12'' widescreen display.
