I find it fun when they push so much crap about being on time with shipping dates, and "Don't worry I will promise your laptop ships on or before that date", and then your date comes, and its pushed back almost as big of a jump when you ordered it.
7/7/06 came and went, and was greeted with 07/18/06 as I drink my morning coffee at work.
So far this is going to mean 2 things.
1. It will probably not ship before I leave for vacation
2. It will probably not ship before the postmark date required for the $200 mail-in rebate, and if it does... it will arrive maybe a day or 2 before hand, giving me a drastically reduced time to check over the machine for defects before I void my chances of making any return. Since the rebate requires UPC, once you slice it out the laptop is yours.
So I am pretty close to being up the creek without a pattle, and wondering what my options are. Do I cancel now, since the rebate (only reason for wanting to buy now) is close to worthless, or do I hope I can sweet talk the Lenovo rep to knock 200 bucks off the purchase onto my credit card. Like that would ever happen.![]()
So what should I do?

I have a scheduled ship date of 7/17, so if it gets bumped I'll be up the same creek. With a previous purchase a number of months ago, I was able to get my Lenovo sales rep to agree in writing (email) that they would honor the rebate even if was posted late and to "not worry about it." I had to return that unit for a defect so I don't know if they would have eventually honored it or not. You may want to talk with a sales rep about it now, though, and see if they will give you something in writing.

I received two z61ts and none of them had the sticker on the top. I don’t think they were re-packaged since z61t is quite new in the market. Both of them were shipped from China. I sent the first one back since I got a good deal on the second one. The current one I have displays Lenovo Singapore and Made in China.
-
I don't even know if they want business or not. I'm kind of waiting for the Z61t...
-
Both of my Z61ts shipped on the estimated shipping dates shown on the order page. The last one took one additional day because of the July 4th weekend. And they were shipped over-night from China without any delays in the customs as other people were complaining about.
I ordered through education link and the site shows availability of the laptops. If it shows days then the item will be configured once they receieve the order if it shows quantity that means they have the unit built already, just needs to be shipped unless someone customizes the laptops which takes a while.
Mikez, which z61t did you order? I was kind of fed up with Lenovo shipping too initially when I ordered my first one 94402CU as soon as it showed up on their website and it was delayed thus I cancelled it. I guess the model was quite new at that time.
Dell is better in in terms of shipping but the laptops didn't seem that durable to me as ThinkPads are.
Hope you get your's soon... -
I didn't order it because all the websites I have looked at it says will ship 2-3 weeks which I think it's ridiculous. I couldn't find the Z61t on lenovo website.
-
Lenovo isnt a direct sell company so of course it cant beat Dell when it comes to shipping. The whole reason Lenovo is successful in China is that it perfected its brick and mortar approach to selling PCs. Of course they can do better. However I would rather wait a bit for my X60s than having to send it back in 2 weeks if I got it from Dell. Iv returned 2 laptops now to Dell in the past 3 month...
-
I'm willing to wait 2 months for a thinkpad. My z61t 94402CU didn't ship after 5 weeks. No dell please.
-
My Z61t did have that sticker on the corner...just like my Z60m I had bought before.
It shipped directly from North Carolina, which is odd becuase I was expecting it to come from China like everyone else. The address that it was sent from is also the same address as the "Lenovo National Return Center". Now, I'm not saying that somebody returned it and then Lenovo shipped it to me, I just thought it was interesting that they had a Z61t in stock and all ready to ship out so quickly.
I can't complain since it was shipped the same day I ordered it and arrived 2 days later in perfect condition. There was no signs at all that it was used or anything. It even had that new computer smell. I really do feel lucky that my entire ordering process was easy as it was. Good luck to everyone else... I really am enjoying my z61t and it is worth the wait. -
bman22 what model did you order? It could that someone ordered it but then cancelled it at the last moment but the laptop was already built and shipped from China and then sent to Lenovo center in NC. So, it is a new one anyways.
I ordered the 94402CU and then cancelled it since it was taking so long and rep. that I talked with during cancellation mentioned that it might be too late for cancelling the order but he would put a request note. And then the ordrer was cancelled but I did get a call from another rep. saying if I want he could re-instate the order without any delays.
And I believe there are other fans of ThinkPads who got fed up with the delays and cancelled the orders. -

From my first rep telling me only the harddrive was backordered, to now the chassis, memory, and optical drive I just canceled the order. Looks like I will probably buy a Macbook Pro and get it same day.
-
yeah that sucks dietcoke. But now your going over to the darkside with Apple...
How much of a price difference is there if you would buy a T60 from a 3rd party instead of Lenovo?
ThinkZ61,
I have the 944026U. Yeah I was thinking along the same lines as you are. They probably had a 'surplus' of computers in NC for one reason or another, and needed to unload them. I am just happy I was next in line to get one. -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
With my bad streak of luck with laptops being cursed, I couldn't bring myself to buy a laptop from Apple with there almost non-existent customer satisfaction policy (short return period, mandatory restocking). I found that the 2623ddu was in stock, a bit more than I wanted to pay, but bit the bullet cause it might actually ship out this week as its in stock.
Once it ships and my order is on its way, I am going to have to haggle with a customer rep to get a free 512M stick of ram, and 20 bucks credited for shipping because there website was going wacky, and wasn't applying the discounted things. The 512MB stick of ram was showing up at 1,000 bucks (no joke), and I didn't have the credit line to cover that much more. Since it was a small ticket item, I would rather get the laptop on time, than deal with whatever was going on with there online system. -
The website is showing that to go from 1 GB on the T60 to 2 GB it'd cost ~$1000. They also have a deal where you can get an additional 1 GB RAM for 99$, but you have to install it yourself.
$1000.
$99.
Surely that's a typo somewhere? -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
Its because there website likes to upgrade the ram, while also keeping one slot free. So it goes from 1gb x 1, to 2gb x 1, and the 2 gig sticks are worth more than gold right now.
-
What's the difference between "1 GB 1 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM" and "1.25 GB 2 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM," aside from the 1 GB and 1.25 GB?
-
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
One is 1gb x 1, the other is 1gb x 256mb.
-
So if I select from their options for the T60 memory the 1 GB 1 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM and I get for 99$ the discounted extra 1 GB RAM, I should be able to upgrade it to 2 GB RAM, with two sticks right?
/sorry for hijack -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
Aahahaha, it SHIPPED! T60p should be here wed/thurs
-
sooo...how long are you going to keep this one before you send it back for some minor problem?
I hope you didn't use EPP on this.
-
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
lol, I wouldn't call a loose hinge, a grinding cooling fan, and a massive blotch of backlight leakage a "minor problem"... its a freakin curse
And no... no EPP for this one (ouch $$$) -
for people still worried about their rebates, I complained to lenovo and they claimed that they would make special allowances for me so that I wouldn't loose my $200. Well, the laptop arrives tomorrow (called ups on this one today
). We'll see if I get a lemon or a cake.
-
Scratch that, two days in customs and at least another day of reviews by the Department of Agriculture Plant and Pest Quarantine.... Things like this really give a new meaning to "2 day" shipping. I think a note should be put up on a sticky about lenovo "Lies about shipping times" or maybe it should go on a more generic forum about all manufactureres? Why did they choose to go with UPS? Oddly enough, my friend's Macbook Pro came in 3 days with fedex, and that was with someone not filling out the right documentation. hmmm... maybe that's because it was being shipped to a non-paranoid country (Canada)?

What does it mean by IMPORT SCAN in UPS tracking status ??. Did it come out of customs and agri checks ??
IMPORT SCAN LOUISVILLE, KY, US 07/10/2006 10:34 P.M.
07/10/2006 4:04 P.M.
THE SHIPMENT IS BEING HELD BY BROKERAGE FOR REASONS BEYOND UPS' CONTROL -
that means it's going INTO customs.... if you're stuck on the Agri scans then maybe our laptops are in the same shipment... Anyone have any idea how long this usually takes? The person at UPS said 24-48 hours...
