    Dear ThinkPad users,

has anybody tried such an upgrade? I am getting my new W530 soon and for some reasons I would be interested in upgrading to Ulitmate, using Windows Anytime Upgrade (the cost semmes to be somewhere around $130).

One more question – assuming, that AU is possible, should I activate the PRO version before doing the AU or should I activate the upgraded Ultimate version?

    Best,
    Wiesiek

The Windows software that comes installed is already pre-activated. So after you have set up your username and basics like that, you can use anytime upgrade to go from professional to ultimate. I have used anytime upgrade and it works fine. It downloads the latest updates, then unlocks the additional features, then restarts. And it validates the activation code after the restart.

Still, if you wanted Ultimate, why didn't you just order Ultimate from the factory? I believe anytime upgrades end up being a bit more expensive compared to buying a more fully-featured version from the start.

I'm not sure why you'd pay $130 for what essentially amounts to drive encryption (free with TrueCrypt) and multiple OS languages... Compare Windows 7 - Microsoft Windows

But anyway, djembe answers your question pretty well.

    Dear djembe and Jarhead,

thank you very much for your answers! I need/want the Ultimate mainly because I want to have the possibility of changing the system language (as strange as it may sound to you ;) Actually the only reason is that I have some non-English software which I've bought, and which I am afraid could behave strange (a mixture of languages in the interface for example). Other than that the English Win 7 PRO would have been perfect...

Concerning djembe's question why I did not order the machine with Ultimate - well I must admit I did not know that Lenovo offers the Ultimate version (there was no such option available when I was ordering the machine).
