I placed an order on lenovo's site for the free upgrade disc + shipping/handling.
I received the first email:
"Thank you for your order.
Kindly proceed to submit your Proof of Purchase clearly indicating the Model and Purchase Date within 7 days. You may send it by the following methods."
I sent in the proof of purchase via email the same day.
This was done 3 days ago...but I have yet to receive any further notification/acknowledgment from Lenovo regarding my order. The order status is still pending when I check online.
How long does it take them to process the order? And then ship it? And then for you to receive it? What's the time frame in general because I'm going back to school soon and need to have win 7 installed before then.
Thanks.

Since you are on a time crunch, I think it's much better for you to give Lenovo a call to get an accurate estimate. Look around in the email you received and there might be a number you can call.
Also, are you in college? A lot of colleges have MSDN agreements with Microsoft that allows their students to legally download Microsoft softwares. I got my Windows 7 copy this way. -
I've done it twice. Unfortunately, the wait was rather long. I responded to the e-mail you refer to above on September 25 and on October 28. There was no response until the shipment notice. Both notices were sent on November 3, with delivery pretty soon after (3-5 days, maybe?)
My speculation is that the initial long wait was due to the backlog that formed prior to Windows 7's public release. Hopefully yours will come more quickly.
What's the big rush to get it before school? You can do an in place upgrade from Vista once it arrives. I experienced little to no impact on installed programs and files. It even kept my settings, favorites, etc. -
I've tried looking for a number to call to no avail. The email only has a fax number as an alternate way of sending in your proof of purchase.
The MSDN agreement at my college only applies to the Computer Science department and those who major in CS...I can't get it even though I'm an engineering major as well.
I want to get it before school starts so that I can do a fresh clean reformat. I plan to remove the 2 lenovo partitions and do a clean install instead of an upgrade install. -
The good news is that the clean install including patches and drivers will take you at most an hour-and-a-half. I must have installed Windows 7 some thirty times now and the installation itself takes about half-an-hour, assuming it's going on your T500. After that I usually install drivers, anti virus, and Windows updates, which may take another half-an-hour to an hour.
Just keep in mind that if you do remove all Lenovo partitions (like I did), you are going to lose the pre-boot ThinkVantage functionality.
EDIT: Give their general sales support a call: 1-866-428-4465. If they can't help you, ask to be redirected to someone who can. Phone calls are free. -
-
You universities may also have these softwares available for purchase to everybody in their computer stores. A while back my university was selling Windows Vista for $8 and Windows XP for $12. I believe Windows 7 is something like $15 right now.
-
That's alright...I've never found any use for the pre-boot Thinkvantage functions. Afterall, you can always pop in the disc if you need to use any of those tools.
Hmm...reformats take me all day. That is, it takes me all day to get the laptop into perfect working condition with all of the programs I use and settings I like. I still need to figure out a compatible driver for my video card since the T500 has switchable graphics. -
However, W7 Pro was like half of that much time in my experience probably b/c of limited number of Windows updates. -
-
That's Lenovo Sales Support's phone number: http://www.lenovo.com/contact/us/en/
I figure if you have some sort of an order number they'd at least be able to tell you who the correct person/department to contact would be. -
I signed up for the upgrade program and they asked me to send in proof of purchase. I never sent it in, and they shipped my disk set anyway about two weeks later. Good thing, as I would've had a hard time justifying the x64 Ultimate that I requested
-
How many notification emails did you receive before the disc shipped?
I sent in my proof of purchase in response to the first order confirmation email that you receive when you first place the order. I have yet to receive further email notifications.... -
If you are in a crunch, you can download OFFICIAL window 7 whatever version and install it, it will run normally about 10 days. When your disc come, just key in the product key.
There is NO difference between the downloaded one (official from microsoft distributor digitalriver) and the one coming in your upgrade.
Oh yeah, DON'T upgrade over vista, backup everything, select custom install (the XP way) and do a clean install -
They use a UPS mail integration service which was horrificly slow, took two weeks from CA to OR. Some of that can be blamed on the holidays, but still, eesh... -
